Today i made bolt-on dropout conversions...... anyone think there's a market for that?

Sherblock 01-12-12 07:49 PM

From a practical standpoint, regular dropouts work fine on conversions. Waste of money.

But from a market standpoint, yeah, people will pay $50 for horizontal dropouts even though it'd be easier to just use the ones on the bike.

Who is irmuffinman on tumblr? It's nice to put some names/faces together.

Today I could barely walk. Not sure what's up with my foot. I was watching some TV on Tuesday night, and when I got up my right foot was in immense pain. I was like "HTFU dude" and walked all over for a whole day on it (Wed) and now I can barely walk. Is it time to see the doctor?

If it still hurts when you wake up tomorrow: yes.

Sherblock 01-12-12 10:07 PM

jdgesus 01-12-12 10:11 PM

It only hurts when I put pressure on my heel. I'm pretty sure the rest of the acheyness is just from me walking weird for a day (on the ball of my foot).

I did have some more chicken and rice right before it started hurting...

Sherblock 01-12-12 10:19 PM

I just thought foot pain and then thought gout.

Don't make fun of me guise ;_;

yummygooey 01-12-12 10:29 PM

Haha, makes sense.

Thought I recognized your bike in that tiny profile pic on tumblr.

Muffin Man 01-12-12 10:32 PM

:D
I should probably change that photo to a current pic of that bike...

Do you run? Sounds like plantar fasciitis. It's a common running injury but you can get it in other ways too. For your sake I hope it's not, cause it's no fun and hard to get rid of.

Ayup, rly.

A lot of guys having been doing this long enough to have "grown in" to their ultimate cat; they have an idea of how far they can go in this sport and how far they are willing to go given their other commitments.

Once the novelty of your first few seasons or new cat. upgrade wears off, you realize it's a life style thing and less about your performance and about realizing your potential.

Case in point: I know that I may be able to upgrade to cat 2 with a very focused season in training and ofc in races, but with the time I have available and my genetic limits I will never ever get to cat 1 or even have a chance at being a professional given unlimited training.

Of course I still try to win races; i'm a competitive person. I won two crits in Jun/July of 2011 as a matter of fact.

Having said all of that, bring on the burgers and beer.

Chronic Plantar fasciitis on my right foot is the single most significant reason why I am the cyclist I am today. I started pouring all of that energy into riding my fg, bought a road bike, joined my college's team and the rest was history.

at 42 (next week), i am very much a "calories in vs calories out" guy. no excuses, if you're not going to burn it, do not put in face. i cook simple small portions with the freshest local ingredients i can find/afford.

that said, biking lets me appreciate beer (didn't drink from '91 to '08) and the occasional donut.

Don't you also do a zillion push ups per day? I need to get my reps up, but I started focusing more on pull ups recently. All I ever did was chest and shoulders in high school, I really neglected squats, and leg and back workouts. So I always hit those up if I can make it to a gym.

Today I realized I should pay more attention to the radar, it snowed! hooray for cross tires

Nice, there was a silver lining. But at the time it must have been tough, right? The thought of giving up running, especially over an injury, is terrifying to me.

misskaz 01-13-12 09:09 AM

Today it was 20F and there were 6.5 inches of snow on the ground and I biked to work. Had to alter my route because none of the side streets were plowed, including my own street. Busted out my cyclocross skills to carry my bike to the nearest major street.

It was fun! Only a handful of other bikes out there.

Yeah I was pretty stressed/upset at the time. Fortunately for me cycling ended up being a lot more fun and gratifying, albeit more time consuming and expensive.

I actually developed quadriceps tendonitis over my right knee a little over two years ago on winter break from school. I was laying down 18-21 hr weeks and started working my old grocery store job = on my feet all day and no recovery. It's under control now though; I just have to stretch a lot and usually bag a workout once a training block (read: month) or so.

Uhhh, duh!

Way to go, that's hardcore. I would never ride in temps like that, but i'm a spoiled California boy.

I used to run a lot, but it's been... um... like 5 years since I ran seriously.

I have been walking A LOT (all over NYC) in new shoes. Could be it?

It's a little ironic because I was thinking of taking up running a couple times a week once I got back to school... :(
