you'll find out

hamfoh 01-21-12 10:51 PM

the group has done it before, and it's big as hell, but I can't remember how steep it is and by the pictures it doesn't seem too bad. I'm just afraid it may be too much for my brittle knees! 65 miles on the townie may be rough and the brake nearly rubbing the tire makes me afraid of a flat. clearly I wasn't very prepared for this

Dannihilator 01-21-12 10:58 PM

Today I cleared snow.

Looks like JD Green is roughly $22/bottle, which isn't too bad. It's all relative. Johnnie Walker green is like $70/bottle. I've never spent more than $40 on a single bottle. Remy Martin VSOP is $32 at costco, and that's my "special occasion" drink.

My friends get a bottle of $120 Blue Label every now and then, which to me is completely pointless. I don't think most people can tell the difference between Black/Gold/Green/Blue, both in terms of taste and buzz.

My dog is named after a scotch! <3 you McCallan

$22/bottle?? I would kill for those prices. Also, I would never spend that much on something you will never remember anyway... Sounds like those kids have money to burn, (maybe they are not kids) but I am the cheapest person I know. I had a hard time spending five dollars on a litre of rum yesterday, and the exact same bottle would cost me $14 in the States. The Staten Island Girls in my group have been making a noticeable impact. What is the best way to distance youself from smeone without being a dick?

Is this one relate thought or several different ones?

Line breaks are useful dude!

I can tell the difference between cheap booze and good booze. Then again, I have a spoiled pallete.

PlattsVegas 01-22-12 12:56 AM

My bad y'all,

the real question is, how do you separate yourself from a group of people you don't see eye-to-eye with without being a dick?

I went out alone, sat in a bar and drank a couple beers, coupled with a couple coffin nails (cigarettes). But normally, I have to make up some excuse to get away from these three Staten Island Girls. (I am from upstate, and can't even get drunk without these girls giving me **** for it). Any advice?

striknein 01-22-12 12:59 AM

Pull out your wang.

PlattsVegas 01-22-12 01:04 AM

I would, but two of these girls have boyfriends, Omar and Chad. I don't think I can compete with that...

hairnet 01-22-12 01:10 AM

Wip it out and take a leak right there

Sherblock 01-22-12 01:27 AM

Don't talk to them?

any of them hot?

i usually turn it around and ask them if they could survive one day in the woods. i'm from the Southern Tier, right between Trout Creek and Chipmunk Hollow. no kidding, check the map. :)

Put up a post on facebook that I was riding singletrack this morning. Friends started coming out of the woodwork to meet up. Life is grand sometimes. Also, Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the BEST.

hamfoh 01-22-12 09:46 AM

was feeling amazing on the way to galveston today. I don't know if it was wearing bike shorts for the third time in my life, being clipless, having a nice light set of wheels, just a biker's high, or a combination of all of it, but I felt like I could've done a fixed century today , even with insane ass winds on the way into the Gulf. was also working on about 3 hours of sleep

unfortunately my girlfriend was daying in the winds. I made the call to turn back when the group was starting to get hard to spot (about 10 people had already dropped off at least). she can go for a long time, she just can't go 15-18mph in those winds for a long time. she was struggling and being away from everyone she was taking all of it on her own. oh well, still got 25ish in and feel like awesome still. love these wheels.

You need a tandem bro!

PlattsVegas 01-22-12 10:07 AM

RGNY, I am also from the Southern Tier, specifically Cooperstown. Good to se someone on here from my area.

Teach her to draft (aka suck wheel). Since you are much larger than her, she should be able to get a very good draft behind your rear wheel.

hamfoh 01-22-12 01:12 PM

yeah I got her to ride like that on the way home once we got on slightly slower roads. I stayed in the back when we were on an old highway though just because she's pretty hard to spot at 5' on a raw bike. I kept trying to get her to catch up to the crowd to draft behind the big guys but the wind was killing her. she just started riding about a month ago so I not too bad

Santaria 01-22-12 02:18 PM

Hamfoh,

I feel ya mate. My wife is going to start riding again this week and I know that it will entail a significant amount of pulling in Gulf winds to keep her comfortably riding. My next big bike purchase will definitely be a Cannondale tandem with a good ratio on the stoker for her.

what do you mean by not rideable?

The causeway here in SPI is not open to foot traffic of any kind. You must ride the yellow bus, or drive to get the 2 miles out to South Padre Island. I was told Corpus Christi>Mustang Island was the same way. So I assumed Galveston was probably another causeway with no food traffic option, being that Texas has a specific pattern of building things generally.

Today I: took this from my hotel. Sydney skyline.

Also, I am totally jealous of the biking infrastructure they have here (that's saying a lot since I am from SF)! It's beautiful. Separated green-ways throughout that city, TONS of bike parking, lots of people out -- it's glorious.
