Today I took a crap so massive that it collapsed in on itself and formed a singularity.

Yesterday, we met with the engineer team leaders from UAH for my NASA Mission Design course. Talked some science and engineering, had dinner with them at a fancy restaurant, and then threw them a party at one of my group member's houses (the professors showed up as well, which was amazing).

Also found out yesterday that the little mom and pop restaurant I've managed for almost two years has gone under because rents gotten too high. Yesterday was their last day. So, I'm out of a job. Admittedly, I probably needed to put in notice so I could concentrate on my school stuff anyway, but its still sad to see a great little business go under.

Dude, I still get carded all the damn time and I'm almost 40. It's usually more of an annoyance than anything else.

Yesterday Angie and I were on our way to her sister's house for dinner and we stopped to pick up some beer along the way at a little store we had never been to. I walked up to the counter with a 12 pack and my long, greying beard and the guy behind the counter - who couldn't have been older than 30 himself - immediately snaps at me to show ID. I chuckled, pulled it out of my wallet, handed it to him and he scrutinized over it for a solid two minutes. Flipping it over, holding it up to compare it with my face, he even brought it over to an older guy working there (who we assumed was his dad) so he could check it out. When I said "Come on dude, do I really look like I'm under 21?", he abruptly handed my ID back and rang me up.

jimmytango 09-30-12 08:40 AM

That's awesome. When I shave my beard I get carded all the time. If I'm beardy like I am now, I only get carded if it's one of those places that has to scan the ID for the computer to let them make the sale.

Today I'm listing some stuff on CL.

How much should I sell the original kilo wheelset for?

YoEdgar 09-30-12 11:06 AM

today i am resting on my last day off before going back to work. 3 day weekends are awesome.

Also debating if i should pick up a cheap dawes road bike or a cheap track bike (moto track/windsor the hour) for commuting. I love my ftp but i hate locking it up and i get a few odd stares when i ride through a ghetto area on my way to work and back home...

Today I trimmed my beard and learned how to tie a bow tie.

Between those two things, my new slacks, and my argyle socks, I dare say that I currently look very classy. The can of PBR I just finished serves as a counterpoint to that.

By curiosity, have you seen that southpark episode?

/on topic
Today I: went for a supposed 75 mi AM solo and wound up finding the exact same betamax player that I grew up with dumped illegally on the side of the road. Went home, grabbed the vandal and backtracked some 20mi+ and brought it back home.

I don't either. Nor Family Guy or The Simpsons or any other cartoon show. They're referenced so much in pop culture, tho, there should probably be a cliff notes of these shows for those of us that don't watch them.

Well they actually have quite significant underlying meanings to them.

jdgesus 09-30-12 12:43 PM

fell over yesterday, ****ked up my knee somehow (even tho i was probably going under 5mph)
thank goodness its the nicest/warmest fall weather i can ever remember :( :) :( :( :)

jimmytango 09-30-12 12:45 PM

I have watched an episode or two, I just can't get into it. Family Guy has it's moments. Metalocalypse is amazing, and King Of The Hill is one of my favorite shows.

Watched that clip. I get it. I'm not white trash, but I get it. I am a high school dropout who grew up in a trailer park in Indiana. I can't escape the white trash label...

MAGAIVER 09-30-12 12:52 PM

Today I raced mountain bikes.
I was riding the below 30 years old category on the longest distance (5 laps of 9km), the course had lots of loose sand, headwinds, and loose rocks. Overall It was very fun, I was the only guy racing singlespeed and got called crazy by some of the racers. I think I was the last one in my category, not sure yet, but I wasn't last overall. Not sure when the results will be online, the organization was bad and confusing, the people who were there trying to win something got quite frustrated.
As I only race for fun, I dont really care, I got a shiny medal for participating and I'm cool with that.

The race machine before the race

Mass start for everyone doing the 5 lap race.

That rules. It looks to be in great condition. Does it work?

Beta > VHS

Forgot to mention but that's a stock photo; the one I found looks exactly like that w/ remote however.

It's up in the air at the moment. The remote was corroded from some ancient energizers left in it. But I already cleaned that up including the internals of machine itself (surprisingly clean for its age). It powers up and everything seems to work through aside from playback which I am unable to test at the moment as I haven't had a VHS let alone beta tape in my possession in some 10+ odd years. I am about to hit up a couple record stores and thrift stores to see if I can find some betas otherwise I'll have to wait for a chance at my parent's house. A good part of me tells me that my birth was recorded on one of these.
If it doesn't work, I have a good feeling it'll be repairable considering sony products back then were built like tanks.

Mumonkan 09-30-12 02:21 PM

today i saw this and thought it was a kinda cool idea

http://www.premiumbikegear.com/media...llage-600h.jpg

Nagrom_ 09-30-12 02:30 PM

My braking system is now complete. SwissStop yellows + Yokozuna reaction. I don't even have to touch the levers.
