gettin' ready to head out for an unstructured ~2 hrs solo loop. No hammerfests or racing for me this weekend, I've got a lot on my mind these days re: women, work...
after I will eat and shower and head down to my LBS to pick up my new partially assembled fixed gear road bike. I'll finish putting it together and probably do an easy hour around town in the low gear (42/18t). The other side has a 15t cog.
tonight will likely be drinking with various coworkers and pondering the liberties and pitfalls of being single again.

Reasons single is good- moat biek time, more time for everything in general, drug use drinking at your own discretion, casual sex with friendly sqrls
Reasons single is bad- no guaranteed sex

I'm just saying... That's one of the downfalls of being single, like a shark you don't know where your next meal is coming from.

Last night I went to a new local brewpub (they just got their license to serve their own beers like two weeks ago, so they're really really new) and had some great beers. I love when brew pubs let you do the little 4oz tasters, cause then I can taste all the beers and not get trashed. Then I rode to karaoke with a friend and sang lots of songs and had a blast. Then I rode said friend home because (bless his heart) he had no helmet or lights and didn't quite know how to get home. He rides a single speed SE draft with the seat way too low for him, LOL.

The first half of that sounds awesome. Today I'm getting paid to write nonsense and I just got a call from one of the many restaurants I applied to finally saying they want me to start working. Tonight. Sweet time management there guys. But anyway, two jobs ba-ZIIIINNG, and I get to start commuting again.

Today I: did my first night century with the Wolfpack Hustle SF bros. 108 miles starting at 7pm and finishing around 2:30am. We couldn't get to the top of Mt. Diablo because the park rangers made us turn around ~1mi from the summit. LAME! With errands plus this ride, I was at 120 miles of riding yesterday, a new personal best.
Strava track
Pics:
Almost at the top of Diablo before they made us turn around:

Bros at the (almost) top of Mt. Diablo. The downhill bit was AWESOME. We had some pretty beastly lights.

Mile 71.6. Dumbarton Bridge. Midnight.

108 miles later we made it to my buddy's house around 2:30am. Dead Legs McGee. Why yes, I will have some whiskey to make the pain go away. Thank you.

Today I learned my friend crashed her bike (no car involved, seems to have just been a wipeout of her own doing mostly) and was not wearing a helmet. Summary of her injuries:
I won't post pics of her face but trust me it is destroyed. No solid food for three weeks b/c of the broken jaw.
I think I just got scared into wearing my helmet more consistently.
13 fractures in my jaw. 1 skull fracture at point of impact (top of my forehead), and 1 fracture of the right orbital (behing my eyebrow) hence the beginnings of a gnarly black eye. Acute brain hemorrhage in the frontal lobe, and a second adjacent area of acute hemorrhage. Possible broken right wrist. MRI results to come. Hideous road rash on face and entire right hand and arm. Severe concussion.
I think I just got scared into wearing my helmet more consistently.

Today, I did a bunch of work to make a slightly bigger chainring fit.
<stoolcrorybo>
Since my bike started out as a mountain bike, it didn't have much chainstay clearance. I've been wanting to bump up my gearing a little, but didn't want to go smaller than 15T on the cog. So I took the bottom bracket apart and used a 1mm freewheel spacer to scooch it over (you can see a shiny sliver next to the bottom bracket shell). I repacked it, mounted a 42T Sugino ring I had lying around, and it all worked. The 41T ring I was using is below it.

This raises my gearing from about 69.4 to 71.1 gear inches. Yay.
