I had planned to do a 2 hr ride but i got drunk and ate excessive amounts of food yesterday instead. We had a company potluck at noon and started drinking then; it pretty much turned into a **** show and now I have to come in to work over the long holiday break because your boy over here didn't do any more work after lunch. The party continued at my parents house with more food, drink and jamming with some (professional) bass player and drummer friend of theirs who came over. so good. we did a killer version of stolen moments.

Then I went out to the bar with a couple friends. lol

today is looking like moar of the same. yay
/trainingfailurestatus

rest weeks ftw!

Also +1 on all the happy thanksgiving comments. Make sure you eat and drink enough to feel disgusting after and super motivated to ride. That's the direction that im headed.

So, time zones are weird.

EpicSchwinn 11-22-12 10:22 AM

Today I'm at school because Costa Rica doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving. My girlfriend is going to make me dinner tonight though so that should be good. I really miss all my family and can't wait to be back.

Tomorrow morning I fly out for Cuba. I'll be staying in a hostel in Havana for a week. There is no access to the web other than email (and even that is monitored) in the country so I'll be off bike forums for a while. I'm debating whether or not I want to get my passport stamped. I hear it makes it a pain in the ass whenever you go in/out of the US if they see a Cuba stamp and you don't have your letter of permission.

J Pedals 11-22-12 11:49 AM

Today I'm sitting at work, by myself, 8am to 6pm. Hooray for computer equipment that has to be babysat 24/7/365. At least I get to watch movies while I'm here.

And somehow my family is meeting for ThanksGV tomorrow; they planned it before even knowing that I had to work today. Works perfectly.

YoEdgar 11-22-12 11:59 AM

Today I will be working 2-11 aka the single man shift.

I also realized how much I want a bolt or kagero.

Me too!

Today I started what was supposed to be a 5-6 hour ride. 2 hours, one flat and one broken spoke later, I'm back home.

hairnet 11-22-12 12:54 PM

I'm at work. My parents are having Thanksgiving lunch party instead of dinner and my girlfriend's family is waiting until Saturday, so I cant even have her bring me stuff for lunch. Poop. gonna have a improvised dinner with my co-workers tonight.

Ride to work was fantastic though, I was chilling the whole way with almost zero cars and red lights the whole ten miles. I took the hilly route, stopped to buy a bag of coffee beans and got a free cup'o'joe with it, rode a couple miles no hands while drinking said coffee, and still made it on time. On top of it all the air is nice and cool. Best commute in a long time

sweet, the boss is out for the day. It's going be chill today.

solipsist716 11-22-12 01:00 PM

Today I food coma, tomorrow my LBS is having a pretty rad storewide sale, so I'm gonna hit that up before I leave Buffalo.

Nagrom_ 11-22-12 02:54 PM

So, just got a call from the guy who bought my bike.
His RD got sucked into his rear wheel and broke the chainstay/RD/hanger/cables/housing.

I ask details, he was out climbing to see how it shifted cause he just "tuned it up."

Sounds like someone doesn't know how to set a limit screw. I explain how it couldn't be my fault, and how I would try to get the frame warrantied. I would also do all the work when the time comes.

sheesh, happy thanksgiving.

Muffin Man 11-22-12 03:05 PM

Lol good job on his part.

Nagrom_ 11-22-12 03:19 PM

The thing shifted on a ****ing dime. Don't exactly know what a "tune up" entails.

"Uh oh, one of these screws is kinda far out, better tighten it."

Spoonrobot 11-22-12 03:26 PM

As someone who works around bikes and sees this same thing a few times a year; I'd bet anything he dropped it or mounted it on a car rack that bent the derailleur hanger out of alignment, relegating the already set limit screws to worthlessness and leading to the destruction you describe.

Burn that google voice number and go on with your life. I wouldn't consider that my problem anymore.

I'm half way there. Depending on what the seller say, we'll see what happens.

This.

It would be a totally different story if you sold it knowing there was a problem but you did the opposite. If he does something stupid and breaks the bike it's not your problem anymore. There's no way warranty on a Chinese eBay frame is going to cover user error, especially if it's already been resold.

Never thought about using Google Voice #'s for craigslist dealings. Not a bad idea...

Got bored after dinner, been reading the hints and tricks thread in the mechanics subforum. There is some truly dumb advice in there. Some good tricks, but man.

Here's a good one that applies to SS/FG; did you know a 15mm combination wrench (with open and box ends) can double as a pedal wrench w/ the open end in addition to the box end for track nuts?

RGNY 11-22-12 06:24 PM

early dinner in a restaurant w/ the in-laws. walked the dog along the wetlands trail. now enjoying an absinthe made by a local friend and -very determinedly- ignoring the sale on the Civilian Le Roi Le Veut.....stay strong, stay strong.....

Today my life has changed.

Sixty Fiver 11-22-12 06:52 PM

Spent the day bending steel with my bare hands and made it submit to the flames of my new torch. :)

...

Have been designing a custom rack for the Surly Pugsley at the shop and sorted most of it out today, will finish it on Saturday... the offsets in the frame make it a less than straightforward job.

Also started work on the front rack design which also has to accommodate the offset in the fork.

Nagrom_ 11-22-12 07:02 PM

So the guy owned up to his mistake. I asked him how he transported the bike. He took the wheels off, put them in the trunk, and then put the bike in the back seat, derailleurs down..

Still told him I'd see what I can do.

63_dorinte 11-22-12 07:04 PM

Today I:

1. Slept in.

2. Went for a nice ride and had a flat at the end.

3. Cleaned up some more parts

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...lo_Hubs_05.jpg

The hub shells will get polished tomorrow. The Regina Syncro freewheel (bottom left) feels cheap in its fit and finish, but I'll try it anyway as I have the correct shifters and derailleur already mounted on a project.

4. Time to relax and do nothing for a while.

That'll do it. Guy must've been trying to keep his upholstery clean.

No way !!!

Nagrom_ 11-22-12 07:28 PM

Pretty disappointing, yeah.

Dannihilator 11-22-12 07:50 PM

Today I got in a fun 40 miles.

jimmytango 11-22-12 08:54 PM

Today I did the usual Thanksgiving thing. Went to a friend/former employer's house, got drunk, watched Spinal Tap. Oh, and I apparently might be opening a butchery soon with him.

I've been told I act pretty similar to being baked when sleep deprived. Hungry and relaxed, ate a whole large papa johns pie once then slept for 13 hours.
