Scrod, I'm picking up a used(complete) Raleigh Furley tomorrow morning and will be shipping it to my friend in Philadelphia. Which shipping service would you recommend and do you know approximately what it should cost? Thanks!
|
Oof. Shipping complete bikes is very expensive if you don't have a corporate UPS account or the like. Can you ship it through the bike shop where you work?

Without seeing it, it's hard to say for sure but I think you'll be ok.

I'm not aware of any low flange hubs by either of those folks. I'm not super opposed to high flange hubs. But, I do prefer the aesthetic of low-flange, and figured I'd try to find some affordable ones before I pull the trigger on another set.

Just because Formula makes them doesn't mean they're readily available in the US.
But I can see it...... |
It has been a while since I have bought hubs, but I have owned sets of Velocity rebranded low flanges, and have sold Iro ones. Two years ago they were very easily accessed on the east coast. I have no idea about today.

Scrod, the Thomson seatpost bag is great for holding a greasy chainwhip, lockring tool, and box wrench. The seat collar bag is amazing for holding cogs.
I haven't found a use for the stem bag yet though. |
Angie is type 1 diabetic and keeps her meter, insulin pen and glucose tablets in one (but you'll most likely never need to do that). I've gotten in the habit of keeping my phone in one hanging from a nail at the shop because I'm always misplacing the damn thing.

There you go. Perfect.

Dear Scrod,
I am getting a creaking noise from my bike, i believe it is originating from my cranks/bottom bracket as you can only hear the creaking when I am pedaling hard like going up a hill. I have checked my seatpost and seat clamps as well as the pedals and chain and it does not seem to be those. I do not feel any play or roughness when i pedal either so the BB is fine I believe, but possibly not. I am stumped on this. Thanks |

Thanks for the help though, guys :-) Much appreciated! |

Creaks are the worst. If you checked everything mentioned, I would start by pulling the crank arms, removing the BB, cleaning/regreasing the threads and reinstalling. Clean the spindle with some degreaser or Goo Gone - WD40 works well as a cleaner too - and reinstall (if it's square taper, please don't grease the spindle).

Four years for a cartridge BB is getting your money's worth.

Scrod, I had an additional question to regressing the drive train. Should a torque wrench be used to tighten the cranks or will it be safe to not use one?
|
I never use one but after doing it so many times, I know what feels right.
Knowing what I know now, it's amazing how easy it is to overtighten many things on a bike without even realizing you're doing so. Be careful, Grasshopper. |
Scrod, thoughts on this wheel set as a temporary for my 722? Came stock on a 09 Fuji Track. Guy said he'll do $50 and he's about 40 min(by car) from me. Comes with new tubes and tires(although I just ordered some Pasela TG's).

Thanks. I'm leaning against not getting them since its almost half of the money to just wait and get the sun rims I actually want. My A23s can be shared for the time being.
|
Don't do it. If you buy them, I will eat your face.
|
If I get a gopro or contour where should be the first place to mount the video camera to?
