I have.

Is it as simple as it looks? I'm building a townie for my wife with honey brown saddle and faux-leather tape and I thought finishing it with twine and then shellacking the twine dark would give it a cool look (same for old wine corks instead of end plugs).

Chances are, it's not your BB or crank at all (this is a common misconception when "slipping" occurs). It's much more likely that your cog is loose and slipping on the hub.

Could very well be that as well.

It took me a couple tries the first time, but it's really not too bad. It's worth a try.

Scrod, have you ever finished a bar wrap like this (about 2:30-2:45 in):

Guy sucks at doing bar tape. Can be done with just notching the cloth/cork where the friction shifter housing protrudes from instead of cutting it off and restarting.

Scrodzilla 06-25-12 09:32 PM

Seriously!

Dannihilator 06-25-12 09:39 PM

Now that I have finally found a tire that works for me, should I stick to that tire or continue with my habit of trying different tires?

Scrodzilla 06-26-12 06:12 AM

If it were me, I would stick with it.

Dear Scrod,

Today I was removing a bolt from a bottle boss and the head of the bolt broke off leaving the body of the bolt still in the hole

-_____-

What do you recommend that I do to get that out of there?

+1

and don't use alloy bolts.

Mumonkan 06-26-12 10:49 AM

would it be a waste of time to install my crappy eighthinch headset on an 805 fork and 722 frame and take it off when i can afford a new orbit x, or should i just wait?

Scrodzilla 06-26-12 11:01 AM

Will you be doing it yourself or paying a shop to do it?

Mumonkan 06-26-12 11:28 AM

myself, id have to borrow a friends crown race puller though since i dont have that on hand

Scrodzilla 06-26-12 11:48 AM

If you're going to use the headset for a while and can install it yourself, go ahead and do it. If you'll be getting a new headset is two weeks, don't bother.

Mumonkan 06-26-12 11:56 AM

it would probably be on there for a month or so

my next check is gonna suck so im gonna have some spare money this week and then not again for a while
i just dont want my new frame to torture me by hanging on the wall for that long, its so purdy lol

(bi-weekly pay periods suck)

Scrod what's the quality difference between a Sapim Laser and a DT Swiss Revolution? Is there any?

I'm trying to decide wich one to go with my next wheelset.

Wait...where did you get that pic of me? ****ing cameras on me all the time!

Dannihilator 06-26-12 07:28 PM

Going to keep with the tire for now.

Is it hard to believe that the tire that's working for me is a serfas seca rs?

Lasers are 2.0/1.5/2.0 and DT Swiss Comps are 1.8/1.5/1.8.

Not sure what the actual quality difference is, if any.

It's hard to believe that a tire is working for you but the Seca RS is a decent tire.

Dannihilator 06-26-12 07:37 PM

I've had gator hardshells last a month, look at michelin or hutchinson tires and they fail.

Scrodzilla 06-26-12 07:44 PM

Gator Hardshells have crappy sidewalls, IMO.

Not sure if you recall what happened when I tried Michelin Pro4s when they first came out but I literally had one blow right off my front rim while I was cornering at a pretty high speed and I still don't really understand how I pulled off not eating ****. The roadies can keep 'em.
