Oh ****, you know Phil too?

SinX7 10-10-12 11:05 AM

Hey Scrod, what's the best type of foot-strap for a size 8 shoes?

Also, what is the best brakes and brake levers for road bike, for the money for a single speed/fixie?

Thanks!

I'm actually not any Phil, either.

Done jacking your thread Scrod.

Mumonkan 10-10-12 03:26 PM

tires again:

would you say that pasela's are comparable to randos?

i forgot i wanted gumwalls and 30+ mms

Scrodzilla 10-10-12 06:24 PM

Two totally different tires.

YoEdgar 10-11-12 12:42 PM

ok then, would you say paselas have good puncture resistance?
would a 32/35 be terribly slow?

Philasteve 10-11-12 05:38 PM

I have a stupid little question for you, is it bad to take your axle bolts off the front of your bike and put them on the back? It always seems like if I don't put the bolts back to which axle they were on originally they're harder to get on and don't go on smooth. So could I mess my threads up this way? Or am I just thinking to hard about this dumb question.

Scrodzilla 10-11-12 05:42 PM

I can't see how you're messing that up. Front axles are 9mm and rear are 10mm, which obviously means the front won't fit on the rear and vise versa.

I've never gotten a flat with Pasela TGs.

Keep your psi up and they shouldn't be sluggish.

Aside from doing some work on a bike that had Pistards on it, I don't. The rims seemed decent and Miche hubs are quite nice.

Is a dodici gara frame set for 460 a good deal?

ps. did you see that the schwinn is posted up on ebay.

Scrodzilla 10-11-12 09:02 PM

Is it an Italian Dodici?

Yes I did. ;)

I will concur. I have had two sets of Paselas over the last 7000 miles and only flats were from big shards of glass that would go through most tires. Recently I have had a 32 on the front and a 28 on the rear and I have never felt sluggish.

Mumonkan 10-11-12 10:04 PM

thx guise

would you say the sizes are accurate? im pretty sure i can go as big as 35 on the bike i want to put them on, but i wanna keep some room for fenders

calv 10-11-12 10:12 PM

Pasela TG's run a bit small I think.

Just what I thought. Are non italian ones the lower grade aluminum? How would I tell?

I concur, doctor. My 25c Pasela TG looks close to my 23c Gator. And my 28c TG looks close...well you get the picture. Great tires so far, and they look so classy.

Scrod,

Any downside to using a front MTB hub for a wheel build for the fixed gear? I just won a XT hub off Ebay for next to nothing.

The mass-produced version of the Gara - which was being distributed in the US by Leader last year - is made of standard 6061-AL and looks like this. The Italian-made version is made of custom-drawn Dedacciai Fire 7003-AL and looks like this.

While the two frames do appear to be very similar, the most obvious way to tell the difference is the dropouts.

edit: are you talking about the ones on eBay? If so, those are the mass-produced frames (Cog House = Leader). $415 for the frame and carbon fork is a pretty good deal.

Great answer, thanks. I had researched and seen that yours was the 7000 series and the cheaper ones advertised were 6000 series. Makes sense why it was so cheap. Even though its not a bad deal, I think im going to keep shopping for a decent steel bike. But yeah its the ones on ebay by coghouse.

Hey Scrod,
I have some time off next weekend and am planning to get out of Providence for a day or two and was thinking about taking the train to Boston and then biking up to Beverly and visiting the shop on Saturday if it isnt raining out. If you have ever biked into the city any routes you suggest besides the one through Lynn and Salem/Peabody?

UCF Eric 10-12-12 10:25 PM

Scrod,

Shimano XT 32h hub
Archetype 32h rim
Sapim Lasers
Should I do it 3x or 2x?

Mumonkan 10-13-12 09:08 AM

Scrod: whats your favorite way to make horchata?

Either way will be just as strong. 2X will be minimally lighter.
