Not that I've noticed.
To quote the bottle - NOTE: The white ceramic particles may turn grey or black over time. This discoloration is normal and will not affect performance. After sevaeral applications, this will lessen. My gold chain still gleams. |
FWIW, I almost exclusively have used FL ceramic for years and have never had any chain - gray, black or gold become stained by anything other than grime. I think you're good TT.

Hey Scrod, are there any 1 inch stems that clamp 31.8 bars? If no how secure is it to get one in 1 1/8 and use a shim?

Hey Scrod, will you google this for me?
(sorry couldn't help it. I'll see myself out) |
Hey Scrod, I'm dreaming up another track bike build that I want to be retro and have some questions about some items in your store:
Does the Defiant right crank spider have recesses at the back for the chainring bolt shoulders, so that the serrated nuts can seat in them ? Will the Andel Cobra BB work with the Defiant cranks, assuming used in a Soma Rush frame with 68mm wide BB ? Does the dust cover on the MKS Royal Nuevo pedal need some special tool for removal so that the bearings can be adjusted and serviced ? Does the fork crown race in the Tange Levin njs headset fit on a Soma 1" threaded fork and do the fork threads have to be notched at the top for a headset lock ring ? Thanks, TT |

Not that I know of.

Scrod, what's a good set of risers? I am throwing a basket on my grocery getter and pursuits just don't cut it. Preferably ones black because once you go black and all. Any size works since I'll probably be replacing the stem anyways.

Anybody home ? #7926
Also, do the Sugino crank bolts and dust caps work with the IRD Defiant cranks ? Thanks - TT |
Dude, relax. I didn't have an IRD Crankset hanging on my wall at home and needed to wait until I came to the shop and look.
The back of the chainring has slightly recessed bolt holes. Not sure if there's enough for the serrated bolts to grab. Any 110mm JIS BB will work with Defiants. The dust caps on Royal Nuevos can be removed using the Park SPA-2. The Rush fork uses a 26.4 crown race so you should be good to go with the Levin NJS. |

Yeah. Those Sugino bolts and caps will work on any square-taper crank you'd use a Park CWP-7 to remove.

This is mind-numbingly vague. There are a lot of good riser bars out there with both 24.5 and 31.8mm clamp areas, which have varying amounts of rise and degrees of sweep.

1 Attachment(s)
Hey Scrod, are there any 1 inch stems that clamp 31.8 bars? Buy one of these and take their stem. In order to have drop bars and grip shift the builder cut a standard pair of road drops in half. Then sleeved them back together with a metal clamp that is 31.8. Then in all their genious they needed a threaded headset. So somewhere they found a bunch of 1" 31.8 stems. |
Considering he's talking about using a 1" to 1 1/8" shim I'm assuming he needs a threadless stem, not a quill.
|
Damn. I just too excited to share.

The setup on that bike is insane, though. The first time I saw one in person, I couldn't quite wrap my head around it.

3d printing bike parts and open source designs....how much will it hurt the industry?

I can't wait for Star Trek-esque replicator units.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmxj...e_gdata_player That said, if someone needed a specific part that wasn't readily available, this is a great alternative. Companies like Shapeways, while obviously not bike oriented, can print anything you can build in solidworks (within reason haha.) Give it a couple years and the price point will go down, then it'll have significant impact on most industries. Sorry to answer in your thread scrod, but I couldnt help myself haha |
It's okay, I wasn't going to answer him anyway.
|
3D printers are also really good at making models to sure for castings.......

What can you get for 26.0 compact drops at RG? I'm looking to swap the bars on my merckx, but I'm stuck to 26.0 because the grammo stem is staying.
