seeing your kagero with risers on it made me think of this

how come riders will get mocked online by the fg community (not necesarily here all the time) if they put risers on an aggressive aluminum frame but it's totally acceptable to just always ride on the the top of track drops?

Scrodzilla 10-15-11 08:00 PM

hamfoh - I hope you got to see adriano's post before he deleted it.

Scrod,

What are the best ways to help my bike lose some pounds? (Kilo TT Pro) My bike is fat.

I think going from steel fork to crabon fibre should save quite a bit of weight no? Other than wheels, I can't think of many other ways to lose some weight on it. Maybe it's not even worth it? HAha

Scrodzilla 10-15-11 08:23 PM

Wheels are the best way to shave some weight that actually matters. It's better to ride a heavy frame with light wheels than vice-versa.

I can't seem to find any weight info for these: Alex SUB 30mm Aero Section Track DoubleWall

Not sure what to go with if I don't know where I'm starting :C

Scrodzilla 10-15-11 08:36 PM

Not sure what the actual weight is but those Alex SUB rims are pretty heavy and straight-gauge spokes add quite a bit to the weight. If you want a lightweight wheel, KinLins or Velocity Aeroheads built with nice double-butted spokes are the way to go.

KinLins vs Aeroheads, which can support a 200lb rider on crappy roads better?

Scrodzilla 10-15-11 09:07 PM

Either one would be fine built with 32 spokes. Personally, I'd lean toward Aeroheads or A23s.

Awesome, thanks Scrod.

I'll probably go with the KinLins as it's a whole kit and I have no idea what I would need to order if I ordered piece by piece hahaha

Scrodzilla 10-15-11 09:55 PM

Right on. If you'd rather have us build them or put together a Velocity build kit instead, let me know and we'll figure something out.

That would be absolutely wonderful. Just sayin'.

hamfoh 10-15-11 10:04 PM

oh and what made you go with Novatec hubs for your new wheel build? didn't you have a set of pws once upon a time?

yummygooey 10-15-11 10:21 PM

Novatecs are nice.

This. Novatecs are awesome and very underrated IMO. My Formation Face is built with a Phil hub and although it's a great hub, I felt it was a little overkill and too flashy. It's also a tank compared to a Novatec.

As far as spacing is concerned, just measure the distance between your dropouts.

calv 10-15-11 11:03 PM

Hey, on topic about hubs, what do you think about the Dia Compe vs Novatec?

Scrodzilla 10-15-11 11:06 PM

Gran Compe hubs are also pretty nice but for the money, Novatec > Dia Compe.

adriano 10-15-11 11:19 PM

sorry, i opened a bunch of tabs then posted not realizing the thread i was in!

Scrodzilla 10-15-11 11:22 PM

I think your post was a valid one.

adriano 10-15-11 11:28 PM

it was to the effect of: its the same sin. them that know know that track drops are risers in disguise.

adriano 10-15-11 11:30 PM

re: fifth floor video. if i recall correctly, risers are now fronting as shallow drops too. theyre getting awfully crafty!

jimmytango 10-15-11 11:36 PM

Hey Scrod, would there be any way we could put have restrictions put on new members? Like maybe they can't post a link until they have 25 posts? I think that would most of the shills...

Yeah that's my point. Most people know a large portion of people with pure track drops ride on the tops 95% of the time, so why do risers get mocked with most people knowing that?
