haha! sorry. i just feel strongly about wound up. back to you, scrod!

BigglyPuff 02-18-13 06:22 PM

Hey Scrod,

Why would a bottom bracket unthread/come loose while riding?

My heart stopped a few weeks back when it happened on my leader, but luckily the threads on everything are okay. The drive side just seemed to have come unthreaded a little. I thought maybe I used too much grease, so I cleaned some off and it seems okay now.

Just want to satisfy my curiosity, I tried looking it up but no definitive answers.

Scrodzilla 02-18-13 06:28 PM

I've never had it happen to me but the ones I've seen were most likely undertorqued when installed and have had way too much grease on the threads. All you need is a really thin coating.

BigglyPuff 02-18-13 07:48 PM

I'm guilty of over-greasing everything. Really got to tone it down, haha.

Torque shouldn't be a problem since I'm using a torque wrench. But I've been slobbing on grease left and right, gonna stop doing that.

FakeFuji 02-18-13 07:51 PM

It's okay, I'm an over greaser too

Unless you have your cog installed backward on the hub, you shouldn't be having that trouble at all.

As far as the crank clearance issue, that's common for Omniums. Unless it's actually making contact with your frame, don't worry about it.

The cogs on the right way so I guess maybe I must just be exaggerating a bit? It's just quite a noisy chain line, I might have to look at centring my chainring and stuff and wearing it all in a bit. Cheers Scrod!

Light, stiff road drops for non brake use that have 26 clamp. Any ideas? And no ergo drops if possible, those things is butt ugly.

spRICE 02-19-13 01:51 AM

Hey Scrod why do you never multi-quote messages when you reply?
