Typically 30.0 but it may depend on what frame you have.

Are any of the $100-150 cranksets available with optional ring sizes. I don't want a 48t or want to have to buy a $80 ring to replace it. But then I do a lot of stuff I don't want to.

FSA Gimondi cranks - $100
generic cranks - $50 are the FSAs worth the extra $50? i dont really know much about FSA. are there any other simple/vintage looking cranks out there i should be aware of when making my selection? other than Andels or IRD Defiants? i dont want to spend a buttload of money cause i just lost my job. but i have tax refund money right now, and im trying to finish my first build as quick as possible. for this build im going for only brand new or new old stock stuff, i dont know how i got so anal about it. please help me choose a cheap crankset. 130bcd if pissible cause i already bought my chainring (d'oh) |
You've really never heard of FSA???
|
arent they the dudes that said their cranks were lighter in an ad and some campagnolo dudes flew over here to fight them in court or something? i dont know, ive just never had any of their stuff or known anyone that has. then again, i only know less than 5 people that ride bicycles around here. i think im just going to get the FSA ones. i found these BLB ones that were sweet but they were spensive. if FSA is a good quality brand, im down.

Scrod . I was looking at some cranks but I've never heard of the brand. Sheemango? Something like that? Are the any good?
|
They are great, but they spin backwards from those on your Kilo.
Oh crap, I've answered one of Scrod's questions. Sorry, I just got excited....it was the first one I knew the answer to. |

I'm looking to get a new wheelset for my Kilo TT (still running stock right now). I have been riding brakeless without any trouble and I want wheels without a machined surface, and all black (rim, spokes, hub, etc.). I have been looking at Velomine for a set because I'm hoping to spend under 250$ for it all.
I have been looking at Velocity B43s, but I am reading from some people that that are very heavy. Will it be something super noticeable moving from stock Alex 6000 wheels to the B43s with formula hubs? Any other suggestions if the B43s aren't the best I can get within my budget? Thanks! |
I just switched out B43's off my bike with some Hson Archetypes....
my bike feels like it weighs half of what it did. |
doing it for vanity, or "aero advantage?" if you're doing it for vanity, i'd suggest finding a set of wheels with a semi-aero look, or just forgoing the "v" look all together. wind resistance, weight, and the additional cost for looks aren't worth it imho. brakes save lives. if desperate for the v look, you could try to find some aeroheads, which i see as a compromise.

Scrod, when it comes to brake pads, can the Kool Stop salmon pads be beat? The stock pads on both the Tektro R350 and Dia Compe BRS100 seem to suck, my mtb/commuter needs new pads, and this BD townie i've been messing around with not only sucks, but is also picking up metal bits in the pad. I think I'm going to end up ordering like 10 of these cartridges/pads with my next order.

B43s suck and weigh a ton, which is why Velocity stopped making them last year. |
The black compound stops better in dry weather than the salmons. If you don't ride in wet weather I'd get the black, but nothing beats the salmons when it's wet outside. Dual compound is cool too if you do both.

Are there mods for mods in this forum?

You're asking the wrong guy. I'm not a moderator, I'm just awesome.

Is a bike frame that was left out since last summer (and through winter) salvageable? How would I be able to tell?
EDIT: Steel mountain bike frame; SuperCycle. I know it's not worth anything, but I'm on a budget and I was hoping to salvage it and rebuild it at a local coop. |
Thanks for the verification. B43s are off my short list because of the weight. Looking on Velomine, there are some nice H+ Sons SL42 wheelsets in my <250$ budget as well as some Velocity deep Vs. I'm leaning towards the SL42s laced to a formula hub at the moment. Any reason to choose one over the other?
