I like my Cane Creek SCR5's.
SRAM S500 or S900 is ultimate though. But they aren't spring loaded, so no brakeless hooding without modification if that's what you want. |

Yea, but the cable holder thing still rattles. Doesn't bother me too much though since the levers still stay put in the open position.

I always forget about the in-thread search funtion. Before I asked I was scrolling every page, and I'm too lazy for that. But I found it, and it makes sense. No one said anything about it being a theft-deterrent though. Any little bit of you do it for that reason at all?

It's probably not really a theft deterrent, but love the idea of some thief rolling into an intersection and pumping brake levers that aren't connected to anything and pitting his shance.

Hi Scrod,
I have a front brake with a bar-top style brake lever. I want to replace the lever with one that has a larger clamp. The levers are identical save the clamp diameter. There is a small cap that has been pressed on to the cable-end. I think all I need to do is cut off the small cap and pull the inner cable out, effectively detaching the lever from the caliper. Then feed the cable back through the new lever, the housing and the caliper. Leaving aside all the clamping, tightening and aligning, am I on the right track here as far as switching the lever? Also, I hear there are different (sized??) spoke wrenches. I almost took a spill which resulted in my front wheel BADLY going out of true. What do you advise I do? pay a shop to do it or try and do it myself? Which spoke wrench do I need or can I use any? I'm leaning a little more towards doing it myself since i'm planning on building my own wheels in the near future.. |
