Terrence and Victor are legit for sure :thumb:

I hope to see more HP stuff at Retro in the future!

The Heavy Pedal crew are cool guys. We've been talking with them a bunch lately and it's good to find people/companies who are on the same page and understand how RG does things.

heymatthew 06-18-15 09:19 AM

That Heavy Pedal Passage is such a good-looking frame.

Scrodzilla 06-18-15 09:38 AM

The Passage is a very nice complete bike overall for the price. That frameset was made by Colossi as well. I'm hearing the next batch of them will have smooth welds.

T13 06-18-15 10:38 AM

Reminds me of the old GT track bikes.

They're bladed (you can see it in the close up pics of the hubs). Rims are 23mm wide too!

Yeah, it's a bit hard to see on my iPad mini. It should be a lot clearer on the 20" monitor on my PC.

+1 on the HP kit

theyre great fitting and quality, the jersey pockets have a really great stretchability to them which isnt even something i knew i wanted

Hey Scrod,
I have a trade on the table with another guy and wanted your opinion on it. He is giving me a Kestrel 4000 frame from the 90s (white) for my Zipp 950 back wheel. My Zipp is in good shape (some minor damage by the air valve that I just taped over) but just sits in my garage. The frame is in very good shape. Any advice?

Scrodzilla 06-19-15 03:17 PM

So you're a total bike noob but you have a Zipp 950 wheel?

Ok.

Muffin Man 06-19-15 03:48 PM

People learn fast. lol

heymatthew 06-19-15 03:51 PM

Seems legit. Right?

Euthyphro 06-20-15 06:59 PM

Scrod, is there a reason you went with the FSA energy wing pro on the Macho Man instead of the 3T ergonova pro like you have on the Thunderdome? Something to do with the brake levers? Thinking about buying some nice drop bars and I'm just curious.

Because I wanted to.

Euthyphro 06-20-15 08:26 PM

Naturally.

Hey Scrod,
On your Bare Knuckle (fantastic bike, by the way), you have one of those nifty little VO Striker Bells. How did you mount it to your threadless headset?

Thanks,
Matthew

Carry on, all.

It doesn't matter what brand it is. VO also offers the same stem spacer mount option for it's striker bells. I just used the image from the RG site because it was handy.

Actually, the VO site says that their threadless spacer mount is not compatible with the Striker Bells, only the Temple Bells, which is why I was confused. I like the style of the Crane/Velo Striker more than the temple. I'll order a Crane.

Scrodzilla 06-22-15 08:30 PM

The older VO headset-mounted bells were available in either the striker or temple style.

Temple bells are annoying IMO because they tend to ring themselves when you ride over bumps.

Jaytron 06-23-15 11:43 AM

Whoah, I think I need that bell. In your opinion, which sounds the best?

Scrodzilla 06-23-15 12:01 PM

Copper and brass are the best and have nice, long-resonating rings. Copper is a wee bit more high pitched. The aluminum one sounds a little dull.

heymatthew 06-23-15 01:27 PM

When determining the widest tire I can fit on a frame, is it as simple as throwing a set of calipers back there to see what will fit (assuming my wheel will accommodate a wider tire, that is)?

stankonia 06-23-15 01:39 PM

Scrod - Have you ever had Porteur style handlebars on your 77 Fuji? If so, how did you like it compared to the bars with some rise that you have in your pedal room pics?

I don't have experience with either and am just looking for some insight as I'm aiming to turn my Fuji into a townie.

Yes, that and measuring the height clearance at your brake bridge.

I've only had Nitto B320 bars on my Fuji. Poreurs will give pretty much the same hand position but will be a few inches lower.

Ah, didn't think about height clearance. Thanks much!

Check front fork height too. Tires become taller as the get wider. Don't ask.........

Scrodzilla 06-23-15 03:33 PM

He said frame so I figured he was only talking about a back tire.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to correct you, just trying to help Matthew avoid a mistake I made.

xscottypx 06-24-15 07:56 AM

Sup Scrod,

handlebars....

31.8 or 26 ? personal preference? why one over the other?
