For a beater, I personally would recommend a steel frame with normal tubing. Anything chromolly will get the job done.

I bet Scrod will give me a hard time for answering. But I bet he would also agree.

Wow, that was helpful. Why answer if you're not going to say anything substantial?

Without knowing what your budget is, I have no way of making suggestions.

Oops, I misread their post. I thought they were asking which tubing would be better. Oops.

Also doing some hunting last night i found a bianchi pista steel frame for $100 but the seatpost collar is slightly cracked. never had to get a frame repaired so is it fixable/expensive fix/worth it?

Scrod, do you sell any bike stands? I like the looks of this one posted below, i think it is the EVO. What do you use to stand single bikes in the shop?

We have stands very similar to those but they are black and made by Shimano. They retail for 32 bucks.

There are enough frames in the world to not need to buy a cracked Bianchi Pista.

What's the deal with those new all city rings? Have you ridden one yet? Are they even out?

all city rings?

Scrodzilla 10-02-14 03:52 PM

You mean these? They're a figment of your imagination.

gl98115 10-02-14 08:05 PM

What's so special about them? Besides the marketing.

Scrodzilla 10-02-14 08:51 PM

Nothing, it's all just internet hype. Whatever you do, don't buy one. Origin8 4 lyfe.

Hey Scrod,

I'm interested in the KMC K710SL chain, but only if I can push the link pins back in after breaking the chain. Is this possible or is this one of those KMC model chains where you can't or it's very difficult ?

Scrodzilla 10-03-14 12:30 PM

I've done it without any issues most times but other times, the link having the pin that gets pushed back in will make an audible click every time it goes around.

Why not use the master link?

Well, sure, I could certainly do that, but it spoils the aesthetics of that chain with its pretty cutouts and all.

Scrodzilla 10-03-14 12:50 PM

Gotcha. The new master link included with those chains doesn't have cutouts but matches the shape of the offset links if that's any consolation.
