Vintage, shmintage. Unless you've used decent laminated (there's that pesky key word again) leather straps, you can't really have an opinion of them.

cool. That's what I've heard.

Scrod,

Would a Selle Flite look stupid on my Mash? Have you tried one on your Kagero?

Scrodzilla 10-30-11 12:45 PM

It wouldn't look stupid at all. I've seen a few Kageros with Flites and they look good. I'm tempted to try one but my Turbo is set up 100% perfectly right now and I don't want to mess with it.

homebrewk 10-30-11 03:41 PM

Scrod,

Do you have a close up pick of your double straps and how they are webbed through your pedals? Even using the magic of Google I couldn't find a good picture of properly set up straps.

EpicSchwinn 10-30-11 03:56 PM

On that note, are your 2x clips/straps laminated?

Did you Google 'rocket science' or 'brain surgery'?

Put the rear strap through the slots as you would with singles and loop the front strap beneath the pedal - where the second set of slots would be. Some people use long bolts to hold the strap in place (as seen below) but it's not necessary at all.

You're in the wrong thread.

hamish5178 10-30-11 04:03 PM

Man, it doesn't take rocket appliances to figure this out:

my thunder, it's been stolen.

jimmytango 10-30-11 04:07 PM

Hey ham, those clips look solid. What are they?

hamish5178 10-30-11 04:09 PM

All City plastic quads. Haters gonna hate but I much prefer them to metal ones (which I have on my Kilo).

Scrodzilla 10-30-11 04:10 PM

Count me in among the haters.

jimmytango 10-30-11 04:34 PM

Oh. They look nice, I like the solid bottom, but I refuse to buy All-City. Not because they're garbage or anything, but because it's too damned hip. Do you have any idea how many of their caps and **** I see every day on complete jackass riders on jackass tarck bikes that look like they were inspired by Rainbo Brite or Jem? No thanks.

Also, I mean no offense to you at all for buying them.

homebrewk 10-30-11 04:36 PM

Thanks Scrod and hamish. I realize it's not that difficult but I wanted to make sure.

Shimano if you don't want to spend a ton of money. White Industries if you do.

I can't even tell what's going on...

jimmytango 10-30-11 05:12 PM

Those pedals... I don't even know man...

I have a Shimano SF-MX30 on my bike. After about 500 miles of city riding it started clicking incessantly. Went to a shop and they said it's a common issue involving the bearings, and the mechanic said that his has done it for a year with no issues. I personally hate the click and don't trust it, so it's there only for emergencies. If you only ride SS, and you ride a lot, splurge on the White. Their new trials FW is great, but only comes in 18T. Review is on urbanvelo.org if you're interested.

Why are Thomson seatposts so popular?

Do you have any other black 27.2mm seatpost recommendations?

Also, is there any reason not to cut some of my extensively long seat post off? Obviously, I'd measure from the minimum insertion point to the bottom and not cut more than that.

Scrodzilla 10-30-11 06:22 PM

Thomson stuff is popular because it's light and strong. If you want a setback seatpost, go with Deda. If you want no setback, FSA makes some decent ones that don't cost a ton.

Nothing wrong with cutting off the excess post.

WI really worth 5x the price?
