Well, I'm 5'5" and weigh 135.

I think I'm going to end up getting ellipses.

I wasn't referring to your post, but since you mention it, you just said that they "felt flimsy", which is a lame critique without justification. I just don't like the ubiquitous nay-saying.

should rephrase my OP, the guy who goes back and forth between his mavics and reynolds on the track is a different dude than the one riding his ellipses on the street (did a century with me on them 2 weeks ago) with me. then again this guy is riding a T1 on the street too #comfortable

Do I need to tell you what flimsy means?

flim·sy [flim-zee]
adjective

1.
without material strength or solidity: a flimsy fabric; a flimsy structure.

2.weak; inadequate; not effective or convincing

in i go...

first sell that aerospoke, its a boat anchor. was in a similar boat as you are months back. i built some wheels with phil low flange, h+sons archetype, dt swiss aerolites radial front/x3back all in black.(velomine is awesome by the way) rode them for the month and then got offered a sale price on a set of ellipses. i figured why not, i got all winter to pay it off, and if i hate them, i'll sell them. so i bolted them on and took to the street. no problems, no cornering flex, just an ultralight set of wheels. now be it they are super light, noticable to my other wheelset, but just as stiff. i can see how they can appear flimsy, but i haven't felt them massively flex yet. i haven't ridden my other wheels in a while, i may sell them but so far the ellipses are ok. i'm not a lite rider either, speed jumps, curbs, 3 to 4 set stairs are common on my everyday, they show wear but are straight and true.

How are the hubs? Should I look into different hubs if I buy them?

If you want lightweight wheels, get a radial front and cross pattern rear 20/28 -24/28 or something like that.
32 spoke wheels are just adding dead weight for you.

The amount of weight added by 16 quality spokes and nipples is negligible for a day to day wheelset. <100g

Lies, you just don't want him to have lighter wheels than you.

Bikes: too many of all kinds

Seems like many people ride the Ellipses on the road with no problem.

I weigh <170 and have no problems on the road with them. They are stiff and strong (they have to be to work on a track where pulling 2-3G is normal). I’m not doing the type of riding where I would break a spoke on these wheels though.

Advantage: very aero (rim, spokes, low spoke count, offset spokes). But seriously, who cares if you are not riding over 30mph?

Disadvantage: Heavy and expensive. For that $$$ you can get something that looks similar but is a lot lighter.

Ive had ellipses on my daily for over a year on the streets of Osaka and haven't had any issues at all. A very nice wheelset for the money
