Anyone recommend a good recessed cleat setup? Seems like a good middle ground.

If I were to start over with my recessed cleat setup, I'd go with Time ATACs and Sidi Dominators.

I started to race bmx when i was about 6 so I was using SPDs back then.
luckily I knew the benefits so the transitions was worth it x100.

and although I have 105 on my road bike, I agree with recessed cleats for the kilo which is why I made my Vans into SPD.
-buy some ugly cheap shoes off nashbar.
-destroy them and remove the plastic sole
-hot glue the whole thing into the shoe of your choice (make sure you measured and cut the hole already in the bottom of the shoe)
-attach cleat

-enjoy walking around like a cool guy.

haha but those shoes looked terrible...plus they ran about a half size too small so it felt uncomfortable.
but yeah if you dont mine the look of shimano MT22s(barf)then by all means. :thumb:

the only reason im not using zero float cleats at this point is ive heard theyre not the best for long rides

I wouldn't do zero float. The cleats need to be angled perfectly and my feet don't always want to be in the same position. Being locked in like that would suck

I just went clipless. Is there any kind of saddle adjustment that need to be done to compensate for the shoes & pedals?

Sometimes there is. Just check out your form while you're riding. It'll only be a few mm difference one of the ways most likely.

Depending on the stack height of your old pedals vs your new system, you may or may not need to raise/lower the saddle.

It usually ends up raising the saddle a half cm or so.

Night and day difference from riding in clips and double straps .

misskaz 01-18-13 09:14 AM

nope. clips and straps, baby, clips and straps.

FixedDriveJess 01-18-13 12:41 PM

I met someone who rides 52/14 with regular pedals. No cages, can't clip in, nothng. Not attached at all to his bike. He told me he got into an accident, and I said Yes.

Will Speedplay Zeros work for fixed gear riding? I use them on my roadie, I could get a set for the FG and use the same shoes.

I ride Speedplay Zeros on two FGs and my road bike. That way, I don't worry about switching up shoes and I always have an extra set (on another bike) if I need one. A negative: Zeros are high-maintenance. I haven't tried enough other pedals to claim that the Zeros are superior, but I definitely recommend double-sided pedals for your FG.

Clipless pedals on a Fixed gear review

Hello !
Today I'm here to give an review of clipless riding on a fixed gear bicycle, not a review of the shimano 105 pedals !
I ride a Cervelo T1, and I recently changed my double cages and straps to a shimano 105 clipless pedal !
At first, I thought I was going to fall at every stoplight, It was kind of hard to get used to clipping in and out of the pedals, around my third ride with the clipless I have adapted to the new change !
For skid stopping, at first I was really scared of clipping out while whip skidding, but today I tried it, and it was amazing ! It's such a solid feeling.
I would recommend clipless pedals for everyone, even if you don't like it, it's a good way to experience something different !

troll and, ****

in case not, im gonna throw in my 2cents and say that a Cervelo T1 should never, ever be without a clipless setup.

Scrodzilla 02-15-13 01:23 PM

Pedals are for suckers.

Yo Spiff 02-15-13 01:24 PM

I was curious about that, thanks. I've been riding clipless a long time and am starting to put together my first fixed gear. I was curious if it would be better with or without clipless. Seems like starting off will take some learning, as I'm in the habit of coasting for a few moments as I clip in.

Why are you skidding a T1?

CyclingDaily 02-15-13 01:46 PM

Why not ?

Because its a T1, which you apparently have 2 brakes on somehow?

Yes, I changed to front fork, and have the steel plates for the rear.
It's the law In Japan not worth a $520 USD worth ticket ;/

Nagrom_ 02-15-13 01:55 PM

It's still a T1 on the street.
