Started bringing this thing back to life. The wheels are not my exactly my cup of tea but I got them on a bike I stripped and flipped on CL.

The 700x28's are a little tight.

dirty bikes are dirty.

The rear brake situation has me a little stumped. I want to maintain black components. I don't think I will be able to make a recessed nut brake work. But the frame is a 27" to 700c conversion. So I need a long reach brake on the rear but tektro doesn't sell a r559 rear in black that doesn't take a recessed nut.

Congrats. Not an easy thing to do. Quit about 14 years ago myself. Well worth it, in the pocket, and especially the body.

first impressions?

Nagrom_ 06-05-15 07:40 AM

I'm a robot so I think I'll be ok.

franswa 06-05-15 07:40 AM

Confirmed my suspicions that my Fuji frame is not straight. In rear triangle. Either something got bent or it was misaligned during production. Never wrecked so I think it's the latter.

Mumonkan 06-05-15 07:53 AM

the 87 fuji i have has a fork thats slightly out of wack, the wheel sits level but its off to the side by a couple mm.
the triangle on my eighthinch was off a bit too, but that thing was junk

iirc theres a sheldon page that shows you how to measure it to see if its wonky

i think my wheels might get here today and im about to **** my pants with excitement

franswa 06-05-15 08:13 AM

New wheel day! Nice. The lbs used a doo-dad to confirm misalignment and it's the reason my drive train has always been noisy! Bain of my existence. Gonna replace the frame with a chrome Rush. Yeehaw!

Is it off to one side, or is it an vertically uneven dropout thing?

It appears to be a lateral bias on one of the chain stays but it could be caused by an imperfect seat stay.

but trying to lose weight doesn't mix with training hard tho, thats fosho

You're both right here. I took a break from racing last year. Getting more and more serious started to suck the fun out of it. Also stopped riding as much due to work and gained weight. Now trying to lose weight by doing a bit of keto which has been working. I ride much less than I used to, but it's probably okay for "sprinter's volume" if I decide to start racing again, hahaha. I do still lift though.

Stay in the game Jaytron... It ebbs and flows, that's fosho.

Currently on the road back to fitness myself (270w FTP vs 290 in April) - racing is certainly a lot funner when you're really fit! Gonna race tomorrow anyway (30mi circuit race, cat3) just to dip my toes back in the water, have some fun, and test the legs. It's local (15min drive) so why not!

I almost sold the Dolan, but it was too beautiful to sell. I think staying with weights and riding to/from work each day (measly 10mi a day) is enough to keep me in decent shape as a sprinter. My lifting numbers are up from when I was racing, so hopefully that translates over.

My old coach and team keep asking me to come back and check it out. I don't even know what riding on 33cm sprint bars feels like anymore. I need to get my rollers from my buddy for some rev up drills on the Dolan to make sure I'm still stable at speed lol.

Don't sell it! Remember the track will always be there for you.. and you don't even have to be loyal.

Get back into it when you want to - even if it's next season, or in a few seasons.

Today I was going to take a day off from commuting, but the weather forecast upgraded from "Chance of thunderstorms" to "Partly cloudy" so I rode. The fixed-gear, of course.

Yeah, the velodrome is like that ex you dated years ago that is still interested in you and is always "available" but never pressures you for your time. The ideal FWB

TMonk 06-05-15 02:11 PM

Mumonkan 06-05-15 07:38 PM

True.

But I can answer yes anyways haha

Leukybear 06-05-15 09:24 PM

Today I: was shown 4 pairs of compact carbon drops.
2 different models from 2 different makers (3T & ZIPP). 2 were from legitimate LBS sources and 2 were from alibaba.

I could not tell the difference and thought I was being trolled, the "fake" unauthorized copies were that good. Quality, looks, and weight were spot on.
