Nah, not a zero carb diet just want to cut out bread/pasta and crap like that -- I find myself eating that quite often and not really enough protein aka meat and veggies.

My girl put me up to it to see if we could do it together for a month

Did Atkins for 30 days several years ago. Dropped 31 lbs in that time. Stuck to it religiously and ate exactly 0 carbs for that month. The weight just peeled off and left me feeling good. Well, except for the raging testosterone that was pumping through my body. I felt like a raging bull in a China shop. I remember walking down the hallway of the hospital at work thinking to myself, let someone step out in front of me, let someone say something smart to me, I will put them through the cement wall like it wasn't even there. It was pretty bad. Weight loss was amazing though. Went to Vegas after that. Ate one slice of pizza. Atkins was over. Ate like a hog for an entire week. Eventually it all came back, all of it, plus some.

Ahhhh... eliminating flour is a good thing. Gunna be hard though. Good luck.

Unkle Rico 07-07-15 10:20 AM

I guess its more of a modified Ferriss "diet" so no dairy as well other than the little cream i use in my coffee.. Wasn't willing to give that up! Should be a good challenge, never done anything like this so we'll see how it goes!

Just stay with whole wheat/multi grain breads. Like Mumonkan said, carbs are necessary for people with active lifestyles.

Mumonkan 07-07-15 10:33 AM

just add more protein and veg. maybe more complex carbs instead of such simple ones, whole grain breads and pasta. quinoa is a great source of complex carbs and protein and you can make it sweet or savory or anywhere inbetween.

im only eating meat a couple times per month these days, mostly vegetarian/vegan if possible but keeping my protein level the same. my weight hasnt changed at all, yet i feel like i have more energy.
it also opened up a lot of avenues flavor/cooking wise which is great. i always loved food but now its like i turned up the dial to 11.

all that being said i recently did some "weight cutting" with the mrs cuz she needed to go down a few pounds for a new job, so i did it with her so she had some motivation, gotta be a good teammate!

You can eliminate flour and still get MASSIVE amounts of carbs from veggies, rice, fruits, nuts, seeds and grains. If you really want to go that route, it's easy.

That said, I aint giving up pasta or tortillas. No chance, no way, nope.

Unkle Rico 07-07-15 10:46 AM

All good pieces of advice gents, i really appreciate it :thumb: This whole thing is an experiment and nothing is set in stone -- Im sure adjustments will be made to taylor to my riding etc..

Mumonkan 07-07-15 10:47 AM

also sweet potatoes/yams = food of the gods.

Another "magic" food is beans. Many of them are high in protein as well as carbs, which is weird, and extra weird since they are plants.

I dig Lima beans. For 300 calories I get 19 grams of protein, 56 grams carbs, and 17 grams of fiber. That's some concentrated fuel right there. Pintos are good too.

Huffandstuff 07-07-15 11:32 AM

Beans are a great way to save money too so you can afford that 10,000 dollar mountain bike.

Mumonkan 07-07-15 11:35 AM

i eat beans almost every day, refried rancheros is my flavorite. i had lima beans for the first time 2 years ago and i dont know where this childhood "eew lima beans" **** comes from, theyre ****ing delicious.

Instead of heating them in liquid, take any of your favorite large firm beans and fry them in a little butter, just long enough to actually create a little bark on the skin. Whole different texture experience. Chuck some garlic in the butter and it really gets fun.

TV snack or bike snack: Garbanzo beans. Dump the liquid, don't dry them, place on cookie sheet and bake at ~250 until desired color is achieved. Lightly golden yields a delicate popcorn texture and deeper brown makes them a hard crunchy like CornNuts. Garlic salt, Paprika, or cayenne before baking if you want some zip.

You're welcome.

i do this with pintos and its also delicious, usually till the shell or casing (what is the outside of a bean actually called?) splits open. then the inside is mushy but the outside is slightly crunchy-ish

also effective with quinoa, toasting the grains in a tiny amount of olive oil before cooking them regularly adds a stupid amount of flavor to it

Summer school is sucking the life out of me really fast. I can't wait til my wheels get here so I can ride bikes and forget about life for a while.

Ya man, those summer sessions are way tough. Haven't seen you on strava lately!

I want one of those Cinelli Work frames. Bad.

Eloectromagnetism is not a fun course to try to do in 8 weeks. Midterms every 2 weeks with the final at the end.

Also, I sold my only bike to fund the dean, so I only have an incomplete on right now. I'm saving up for a n+1 ride now.

cali_axela 07-07-15 04:05 PM

Pumping myself up to do the Seven Hells ride tonight... sorry in advance, legs.

Amazing the number of things that good olive oil improves

jlafitte 07-07-15 04:14 PM

Today the Colossi frame arrived. I'm letting the LBS order and install BB, cranks and headset. If they're reasonable on the pricing I'll order the rest through them, otherwise gonna be talking to Scrod.

You can make a headset press for a couple of dollars at the hardware store. Biigazz bolt, one nut and a few washers.

Costco sells avocado oil now. Any experience with it?
