The Dean is mostly finished. Wheels came a day early, and tires finally arrived. I just need to go to the lbs to get the crankset properly torqued down, and come cable crimps. This thing is awesome. Flexier than the fuji, but that was to be expected.

Did my first real group road ride on a geared bike. Seriously considered taking my fixed gear and am so glad that I did not, so is my ego. Gotta keep that in check. In my mind, I am in great shape. In real life on the bike, not so much. Did alright the first 20 miles out on the country roads which I hate riding in the lead pack. We did that first 20 miles in 1 hour, 1 second. The last 5 miles......oy. After the main pack broke away and the gap started, that was it. I could not keep up to catch it. This couple on a tandem were just killing it out there leading most of the way and a few times, I swear on everything I know, they were ACCELERATING up the hills. I pull up along side of the tandem at one point, and this couple is having a normal conversation. I am breathing like I just ran up 200 flights of stairs, and they are talking about their next ride. The last 5 miles were pretty rough out there by myself fighting that wind. I didn't pull into the lot last, so that was good.

I swear they had a motor hidden somewhere on that tandem. I severely underestimated that couple and their choice of bike. I will never do that again.
Every now and then I wish I hadn't sold our last one, but the truth is we never rode it much. |
I am wondering around Mamhatten while the wife is in a class. Went over to Conrad's, a nice bike shop that has been here about 40 years. Also, I have seen at least a dozen bike with weird wrapping around their frames, including bubble wrap. Also, some single speeds that still have two chain rings on the crank.
|
that whole "lets wrap the entire frame in clear rubber tape" is a food delivery guy thing, to "protect" the finish on their $6 dumpster bike when they lock up

Or its to cover the fact that almost all of those bikes are stolen (not by the people riding them, but they were purchased cheap for a reason).
|
I've come to grip with the fact that I'm going to sell my road bike. Haven't riden it in close to 8 months. Probably just the frame/fork/crank and seatpost.
|
Today I got my first cycling kit. Turns out they can be flattering!
|
Today I sold my newest road bike build then proceeded to ride a metric century with said buyer.
|
I rode a bike for the first time in a month today. Wow I'm out of shape.

Friend came over for some adjustments on the TK3 he bought from me this week. Swapped bars and crap out and got him a better fit on it. He is coming from an SE Lager that he loves. I think he will love this bike even more. Bittersweet seeing it, and I am sure that he would let me ride it again. Then I looked over at the carbon hotness that replaced it, and I felt better.

If you keep racing, you'll eventually stop saying things like "metric century", and replace them with "four hour ride", for example. Miles don't matter!

People aren't fans of the pink hubs and gold chains on the internet haha. Too be expected I guess.
|
Today I replaced my wheelset and upgraded to some cushy 35c tires. The only downside is that I probably won't be riding until Monday.

You're totally right. I have been more often referring to my rides in time duration than in mileage. I feel like I subconsciously listed the mileage in that post because most everyone on this forum refers to their rides in distance length.
Your chosen metric (distance) was appropriate for your audience here. To me, a "metric century" is nearly meaningless without some indicator of effort - was your ride completed in 4hrs on a flat course with a tailwind, or in 4hrs with 5k+ feet of vertical? If you're using power, it becomes totally objective: I did a 4hr ride at 70% FTP, for example - which is actually a huge effort that would put you in some serious fatigue for a couple days unless you have the aerobic base of a TdF pro. Even an average joe like you or myself should be able to ride for 3+hrs over consecutive days at 60%, as a counter example. But not everyone has to become some data obsessed racer like myself :p. To each his or her own - and again, people will actually relate to you here if you tell them you rode a metric century vs. xhrs at y% FTP. I would post distance here for my rides but I don't even check anymore :), haven't for years - no importa. |
Had a nice walk through Central Park, first time, and it is a pretty park.
Accidently posted a response in the roadie section. Some of them are judgmental snobs! Luckily, I personally know some who are great guys... |
Today I came back from a bike ride, stripped and weighed myself. 129 lbs ! I'm ready to tackle the Pyrenees now.
