Two exciting new firsts for me today.
1. Rode a singlespeed bike more than ten miles. I do this all the time fixed, but have never done it on a SS.
2. Brought along my 35mm digital SLR camera and took numerous ride pics. This is the first time ever that my digital SLR camera has travelled with me on any of my bikes, although many decades ago I did go on tours with a 35mm film camera.

today i did a trial run of my planned winter commute to work via trails on the ECR
i KOM'd a segment and moved up 2 places to 3rd on another one that ive had a real hard time on, managed to stay upright the whole time and only put a foot down once!
the mtb puts me in such a good mood, i was super productive at work but now im itching to get back out and do it in reverse. cmon 5oclock!

Yesterday I spent 4 hours in the ER.
I was twelve feet off the ground, stepping from an extension ladder to the roof of the house when the ladder lost it's footing and slipped away in split second. I had one foot on the roof and one on the ladder, so when it went I had no ability to "prep" for the fall. Twelve foot vertical drop onto concrete, landing entirely on my left heel. Fractured the Calcaneus bone into five pieces.
I come to find out that even a simple clean fracture (no surgery required) of Calcaneus is considered a very serious injury. The bone is like and egg in that it has a thin hard exterior but a very spongy inside, so compression breaks often cause the bone to collapse.
Severe breaks like mine often result in life long issues like collapsed foot, Achilles tendon problems, reduced mobility of ankle, shortened leg and limp, arthritis, and there is a chance I might need a brace or an orthotic device.
Unless I am using the toilet or showering I am supposed to keep it elevated above my heart ALL DAY long. Typically they wait 3 week before performing surgery in order to get rid of all the swelling. Best case scenario after that is that I'll be able to walk in 3-4 months.
All I wanted to do was sweep my elderly Mom's chimney..... a ten minute job.

Sorry to hear that SP. This is one of those "I wish I could go back in time and undo what I did", but of course you can't. Accidents like yours are one of the most common causes of injury and death. A neighbor of mine a few houses up the street was killed last year when he fell off a ladder while putting up Christmas lights. Anyways, I wish you have the best possible outcome with no serious permanent issues.

Wisdom teeth gone here. I didn't get antibiotics, was told to gargle salt water. Also, my extraction was over at 11 and I've yet to get my pain meds because I've been too lazy to go pick them up. However, there's no pain, so I guess that's good. On a side note, when I could feel them ripping the teeth from my skull, I chose to think about bikes...apparently that's my happy place.

Dude I don't understand you guys that were awake for your pulling. I had the dental surgeon put me out so I wouldn't have to witness it. To be fair, my lower teeth had to be shattered into pieces to get them out.

They didn't give me enough novocaine for my right one, I felt everything. I had them give me another shot for my left. Mine came out pretty easily though. Took about 5 minutes per tooth.

So I raced a cross race tonight and within the first lap I thought somehow my skewer had come loose cause I had a lot of front brake chatter. I said screw it and just used the rear brake only for the rest of the race, last lap I hit a log and this happened.

Oh man, that suuuuuuuuucks. What an absolute bummer. I hope the healing process is faster than expected.
