Apartment living really sucks. So happy to live in my own house even though I have to deal with maintenance and property taxes.

today I pre-packed my bike for this weekend. carrying way too much stuff for 3 days in the woods but whatever. should end up with close to 200 miles. http://s4.postimg.org/3w1e38rjx/image.jpg

Loving all this talk about apartments as I'm about to sign a new lease. Actually am pretty pumped because I found a place all to myself, in a nice building, in a great neighborhood, with a parking spot included, and pretty "reasonable" rent -- by LA standards anyway. The rent in this city is...

Kickass! I should try to get out this weekend. I'll probably be a little less ambitious, though - a metric double in two days sounds about right.

so i finish the rear wheel for the bridgestone project, go to pop it on the bike to see how it looks and the bike has a rear spacing of 126mm.

Did you build it as 130mm? I ran a 130mm rear wheel in an old 126mm frame for years with no issues, just by pulling the triangle apart a bit and jamming it in there to install it.

hub is 135, i was anticipating doing that since i thought it was 130.

i owned a road bike from the same year with 130mm spacing so why would a mountain bike have skinnier spacing? stupid.

gonna go find me a 2x4 tomorrow and do some science, then the hub fits and i dont have the spread the stays if i have to change the wheel

I went to replace the freewheel and axle on a bike I picked up. 6 speed 80's bike so I assumed it's 126mm. Went to put in the wheel and it didn't fit :headdesk:

Nice, that should work well but could be an adventure... sounds like a good next blog entry. Interested to see how it works out.

haha just getting a 6 foot long wood beam on a bike should be interesting enough in itself

I find using a piece of all-thread with a few nuts and washers to be a more controlled method of cold setting the rear spacing of a frame.

This. Don't overthink it.

LesterOfPuppets 11-05-15 08:16 PM

I just spread 'em til the wheel drops in, too.

After a few years with a 130 wheel in there the frame will end up spaced at 130

I dunno how I'd feel about 135 in a 126 tho

Huffandstuff 11-05-15 10:02 PM

Think I'm gonna start wearing my helmet now, days are dark and since I'm doing bike work, it's probably for the best cause my annual crash should be coming up.
