Haha, I like and dislike it. I'm super analytical, so I like the VeloViewer/Strava combo so I can geek out on numbers. I also think it pushes me to ride harder and not slack as much on skipping rides.

I try not to focus too much on the idiots.

Kindaslow 11-04-15 06:40 PM

Today, I am still a slow rider. But, I am way faster than folks riding their couches. So, no strava for me. And, I am very happy to be in my 50's and commuting by bike.

get a powermeter then.

I'm also a data geek, I just choose not to participate in Strava.

BTW: I hate the game, not the players, haha. Nothing personal.

TejanoTrackie 11-04-15 07:02 PM

Today I finally got around to replacing the battery in my Timex Ironman Triathlon heartwatch. I went for a ride and was shocked to see that I'm really dogging it when I think I'm riding hard.

Unkle Rico 11-04-15 07:11 PM

That makes me think about the hammer head turn on Top Gears test track -- if you look slow going through it, chances are you're on track for a fast time and visa versa.

Man, i miss that show :crash:

Mumonkan 11-04-15 07:46 PM

i like strava to nerd out on data and i like the social aspect, ive met a few friends now local to me i would have never met without strava that are all very cool dudes

when i first got into riding and got strava i would try and kom stuff but now i dont care, i just got the live segments thing and i immediately turned it off after the first ride

i think its a very cool system that allows you to use it for different things, some people simply track their miles, some people are competitive with segments, and some people like to use it almost like a ride instagram

today I got the beast back up and running...http://s8.postimg.org/kve8eeaut/image.jpg

I like the social aspect too. Forgot what it is called - where you can see who you passed - flyby I think?

A couple guys in my area reached out and I've done the same. "Hey, was that you in the blue jersey today at lunchtime?" kinda thing. I knew one guy from Church but neither of us knew the other rode.

BTW, Stava is down right now lol.

haha, it's all good. Yeah, I've started Zwifting with a smart trainer that does power which opened the whole power aspect for me. I'm sure a power meter will happen at some point.

I can't hate on strava too much though, since I'm the ****** with the stats in his signature.

Carcosa 11-04-15 10:33 PM

Today I put in 27 mostly new, hungry miles before work. I need to start riding out in the country or soon. Running out of fresh city routes and trails.

Today I called the cops on my neighbor. I had no choice. Her dog starts barking every single morning just after 6:30 am when she leaves for work. I work second shift, so often I go to bed sometime after 2:00 am. I am running on about 4.5 hours of sleep a night, and have been for almost a month. Today was no exception when the barking started at 6:45 am. Between working 3 days in a row of doing lunch delivery at Jimmy John's and then my regular 8 hour shift at the hospital, I lost it. I laid in bed this morning, crying. I am so damn tired, and mentally and physically wiped out. The lack of sleep, less than ideal diet and toll of working like that took over and I lost it.

The officer came out and left a formal note on her door with a number to call. They will be following up with the complex and with her as well. I have been documenting every occurrence and submitted them to the complex. I took a video recording of the dog barking from outside her door and outside the building. It is unbelievably loud. Her apartment is directly above mine and the dog has free reign over the apartment so it often barks right above my bedroom. I have tried everything from talking to her, to leaving notes on her door, to talking to the complex, and now the police. I have done everything that was asked of me by complex. I just want to have some normal uninterrupted sleep now. Please.

That blows, man. I think you did the right thing. Sucks that it has come to this and that it has taken this long.

Nagrom_ 11-05-15 09:17 AM

Bark collar.
Dogs learn real fast. Faster than people.

jlafitte 11-05-15 09:18 AM

Totally handling the situation correctly. The building management needs to step up.

Sorry to hear TenSpeedV2. I've been following your updates and after a certain point, enough is enough. Let us know how it goes!

Also, nagrom may have a simple, effective solution for the dog owner.

haha, no worries man. Again, I hate the game, not the players :). Cyclists of all sorts and types use Strava, can't hate everyone/

Yeah you can.

TenSpeedV2 11-05-15 10:52 AM

Thanks everybody. After talking to the on site manager this morning, they are sending her a letter with two options. Get rid of the dog or get evicted for breach of lease. My township does have a noise ordinance, and the officer said that this falls outside of what is considered to be normal noise. It looks like I will have to deal with it for a little while longer, but as long as there is something put in motion to bring it to a close, hopefully riding it out won't be too horrible.

Mumonkan 11-05-15 11:00 AM

@TenSpeedV2 definitely handling it the right way, you could go up there and pound on her door at 3 am or leave her threats and messages, but everything youre doing is done in a way that there is a record and youre not losing your ****. youre also not making insane requests

i.e:

when i lived with a couple of my friends this miserable old woman below us would complain daily because my friend (who, granted is a big dude) "walked too loud".

they threatened to kick us out numerous times but because the condo was owned by his father and he had a lot of money so nothing ever really happened. if you looked at the log book of complaints our apartment was the most popular and always for the same reason, even the doormen started to get sick of her

in the end the woman sent us up those puzzle piece foam mats to put on the non carpeted surfaces and just gave up.

Huffandstuff 11-05-15 11:04 AM

Me and my girlfriend call the girl above us Horse cause it's all hardwood floors and she walks around with her shoes on everyday. Plus she has a puppy that she doesn't exercise enough so it freaks out all the time.
