What were you in?

I got blasted for a huge drag racing ticket once. Clocked me at 120 in a 40, reduced to 80 in a 40 because I cooperated, improper start, exhibition of speed, reckless, public endangerment, drag racing and something else. Before I get chastised, yes it was dumb, and it was also at 1:45 in the morning so there was not a lot of traffic. The only reason I didn't go to jail is because I was so cooperative with the officer, and I might have narced the other guy out. He was driving when we started racing, but magically, when we got pulled over, his girlfriend was in the driver seat. Not sure how they pulled that off, but it helped me. Had a date with the magistrate. Max penalty was loss of license for a year and 6 months in jail. Somehow I got out of there with a ticket for like $200 and 6 points on my license.

bike handling and tire pressure are way more important than tread pattern. know your limits of both.

And did you later receive a nasty letter from your insurance company? :p

When I got an exhibition of speed ticket my insurance more than quadrupled, instantly, after like 15 years of a spotless record. I had to shop elsewhere.

Nothing changed as far as insurance. I don't know how. I don't know why. It just never did. At the time, it was insured through a family friend who owned that branch of the car insurance company. Maybe that is why?

Dunno. But sounds like you got lucky all the way around. Well, not so much lucky, but smart. When caught red handed the best way to play it is like you did. Polite and cooperative. The minute you mouth off you just give them a reason to slam you, and enjoy slamming you. Same thing happened to me. I won't go into gory details but I was very deserving of a reckless arrest as well.

I couldn't lie my way out of it, we both passed the cop at about 90mph or so. He was sitting in a restaurant parking lot. Saw both sets of headlights jump up like we were racing. All he had to do was wait for us. No sense in trying to deny it, was simply caught red handed.

Ha ha. Mine was similarly stupid. :o

I got my 105 MPH Reckless Operation ticket in North Carolina. Hired a lawyer for $1000 and walked away with a small fine. I didn't even have to go to court.
“Capital punishment means those without the capital get the punishment.”
- John Arthur Spenkelink's last words before being executed.
Then there is Lawrence Pargo from Scottsdale, AZ. He was photographed by a speed camera doing 147MPH which was 82 over the limit, in a rental Hyundai Sonata. Multiple cameras caught him at 102, 105, 128, etc throughout the morning. Incidentally, 147 is faster than the advertised stop speed of a Sonata. -Tim-

Who said anything about justify?

We've all done stupid things, hurt people and none of us, including you, can claim to be Mother Theresa.

is your conscience clean?

Speak for yourself. For sure I've done stupid stuff and hurt myself in the process, but never hurt someone else.

motrheadsroadie 11-19-16 05:02 PM

Nagrom_ 11-19-16 05:40 PM

His lawyer was more than my ticket.

Clean conscience?

Changed to compact bullhorns! also bought a combination steel wire lock.

hardboiled718 11-19-16 09:25 PM

^ i know you said you already bought it, but fwiw combo wire locks aren't very reliable for keeping your bike safe, especially not in a city

Yup, I use solid chains for that :) this new steel wire is just for the office, we have a private parking area that is ID restricted for employees only :)

Ah, in that case you should be good. having been a victim of bike theft and not wanting it to happen to others a proper lock is important
