I'm not into video games much anymore and I was too old for the whole Pokemon craze, but the whole Pokemon Go thing has me intrigued. I am growing a bit tired of seeing everyone walking around staring at their phone tho. Watch where you're going people...and stop playing while driving.

That said, I'm a bit curious about all the data they're collecting. Not in the 1984 way, but more in the way of bettering gps data, etc.

Careful, you might find more than just Pokemon: Pokemon Go player finds dead body in Wyoming river while searching for a Pokestop - BBC Newsbeat

So, after nearly two weeks, three trips to the local Apple store, over an hour on the phone talking to multiple Verizon humanoids, answering a zillion questions, Verizon has finally honored my so unworthy self with cell phone service on my new Apple SE. I mean, it was easier to take out a home mortgage than to pass the test for some lousy phone service. The Apple store is very entertaining, though, kind of like a zoo. Every imaginable animal there. Now, how do I use this thing ?

I'm waiting for someone to get killed if it hasn't happened already.

Kid walked into the road in front of my car a few days ago, staring at his phone. This was suburban/country road mind you, not another car in sight, etc.

Then the roof inspector came to my house today. He inspected my roof, took some pics, said goodbye and walked off into my subdivision staring at his phone.

Its already pretty bad.

can someone please explain this pokemon **** to me?

we saw scouts out with their troop backpacking and 3 of them were staring at their phones in the woods

"oh sick a pokemon is here"

humans are the worst.

iamtim 07-11-16 03:21 PM

Can we not? I mean... can there be just one internet site that isn't talking about Pokemon? Can we, you know, talk about bikes, instead? Or cake? Or marine life? Anything but Pokemon, really.

SpeshulEd 07-11-16 04:44 PM

Sorry, I didn't mean to turn the conversation to Pokemon. I'm more interested in all of the data flying around...I'm a geek and find this stuff really interesting.

I did read a pretty hilarious tweet about the whole thing..."Nintendo just figured out how to make geocaching even nerdier." - I laughed.

Mumonkan 07-11-16 05:06 PM

hey i like geocaching.

TMonk 07-11-16 05:16 PM

there are more than a few similarities between geocaching and pokemon go.

TMonk 07-11-16 05:17 PM

also my favorite is Articuno

Basically they superimpose characters over the real world as viewed through the phone's camera. You do something on the phone to catch the characters when you see one.

If you see someone wandering around randomly staring at their phone then it's a pretty sure bet they are are playing.

“Not even 30 minutes after the release last night, I slipped and fell down a ditch,” said the ****** user. “Fractured the fifth metatarsal bone in my foot, 6-8 weeks for recovery. I told all the doctors I was walking my dog lol... Watch where you're going, folks!”

That about says it all.

instead of pokemon, youd rather read the same dozen stock responses to another thread about which leader or bikesdirect complete to buy?

Holy hell yes.

SpeshulEd 07-11-16 05:43 PM

Give it 5 years and we'll all be walking around with wearables on our wrists and special glasses, playing augmented reality games. I honestly think this is wear video games are headed. Just picture a bunch of people larping in a park with augmented/virtual reality glasses.

It's just cool to see technology move forward and this seems like a fairly big leap.

Just keeps reminding me of Ray Kurzweil's The Age of Spiritual Machines.

motrheadsroadie 07-11-16 06:03 PM

chief keef aint this chief keef aint that

Mumonkan 07-11-16 06:59 PM

call me crazy, but i go into the woods (you know, the real world) to escape things like computers and videogames

it would ****ing blow to be a kid in this age.

Rode 35 miles today and climbed to Griffith Observatory, my first big boy hill. Also had to climb a couple fences because parts of the river path were inexplicably blocked off.

motrheadsroadie 07-11-16 07:38 PM

climbing through that secret neighborhood off cahuenga to get to the road that takes you to the hollywood sign is more of a big boy hill than the observatory.

motrheadsroadie 07-11-16 07:38 PM

i like riding in that area regardless.

seau grateau 07-11-16 07:58 PM

Yeah I tried to do the Hollywood sign a couple weeks ago but screwed up the route, got lost, and said **** it about halfway up. I'll give it another shot some time soon.

hardboiled718 07-11-16 08:47 PM

Seems like everyone on the streets got their eyes glued to their phone. It's really hard to predict some phone users movements as they stagger side to side, god forbid they look up for a minute to actually see where they're going. Had more than a few people freak out when i call heads-up to let them know i'm passing. Not trying to disrupt or scare anyone but they're just so entrenched in their phone that any call back to reality is a shock

TejanoTrackie 07-11-16 09:30 PM

I just posted this from my new iPhone ! Yay me.
