Weddings don't "prove your love" to your spouse. Daily self-sacrifice proves your love to your spouse. Putting your spouses needs and wants before your own on a daily basis proves your love. Proving your love is not what a wedding is for.

When performed in the Church before God, a wedding is a covenant between man, woman and God. Covenants form family bonds and last forever, until one member of the covenant dies. In this context a wedding forms an inseperable, familial bond. That is what a sacramental wedding in a Church is for.

When you get married at the beach or in a hall you don't have a sacrament or a covenant but you have a promise. When you get married in a civil ceremony you have a legal contract. In these contexts, promises and contracts are what weddings are for.

I realize that not all agree but for some, getting married in a Church where a sacramental bond between man, woman and God is formed is very important. Whether the service is boring or seems lame or not has zero bearing fact that the bond is established, nor does it diminish the importance of what takes place.

Proving your love happens after the wedding, when it is 36° and raining, you are tired after work, but you let your wife stay home and you go out to get milk.

Well said. Throughout the Bible there were lots of covenants made far from temples or church buildings. If the bride and groom are believers I think you could still have an equally meaningful service in a venue other than a church.

Protip: Avoid stereotyping entire religions and ethnicities.

The idea that Mexican non-Catholics are somehow culturally and religiously never greedy or self-serving and that Italian Catholics are demonstrates, at best, a very narrow exposure to either group.

I got married in 2005 in a non denominational chapel on the campus here. It was by a justice of the peace. The ceremony was entirely non religious as neither one of us were religious. We chose it because of how old it is, with non religious stained glass windows, cobblestone floor, old wooden pews, and the fact that both of our families had ties to the university.

The reception was over priced, the food was terrible, the venue was a typical cheesy ball room at a golf course. If I decide to get married again, it will be on the beach, with some close friends and family, a justice of the peace, and that is it. Maybe grill out some burgers and brats, maybe dinner at an ocean side restaurant, but never again will that much money be dumped into a reception.

Will gladly avoid the whole religion topic, as everyone has their own personal feelings on it and its importance.

Can we just combine them into a single sentence to increase the overall chance of some severe ideological debate? Also don't mention cars, especially the kind that have big engines and a bunch of horsepower.

Well not to break up the party but today my new frame arrived!
First fixed gear/track bike in 17 years. Now the hard part is going to be waiting the next week or so for the components to arrive.

My frame won't arrive until the middle of May. I might not survive the wait.

Seitan is delicious. With my homemade BBQ sauce it makes it even better. Or make hot wings out of it (homemade hot sauce anyone?)
