Today I (v2):
Rode my road bike for the third time since September, got my third flat of the month on it, and promptly ordered a new pair of 25mm Veloflex tires to replace its flat-prone old 23mm Michelein Pro4's.
Yesterday I finally had my knee surgery consult - so turns out that groove your patella sits in at the end of your femur - yeah mine is flat, so that's why my kneecaps basically just float around. When the muscles tense to straighten the leg (going all the way up and down the leg), it wants to pulls those tendons/ligaments straight and taught and this is what causes my kneecap to be pulled to the outside because that's just where it has room to go to.
There is also a small ligament on the inside of the knee that acts as a stabilizer for the kneecap - pulling it back toward the inside. They believe this ligament has been stretched, or torn off some time ago, allowing my kneecaps to float even more freely.
So there were two options -
1) super-duper major surgery involving carving / gouging out a groove in my bone for the kneecap to rest in.
2) Replacing the inner stabilizing ligament. They would accomplish this by drilling two holes into my patella, threading in the ligament (so it has 2 anchor points for balance), then anchoring the other end to my femur. This can be done with my own ligaments or with a donor's.
THey are recommending option 2. He said 9 months for full recovery only because they have to make sure the donor ligament takes. 4-6 weeks on crutches, motion rehab starting at like 2 weeks, cycling rehab at like 3 months, running after 6 (but I don't run, so,).
This is teh route I will go - just don't know when. I'm 35 now, and can probably hold off a little while.
MRI schedule for next week(ish) so they can really look at the soft tissue and make a true diagnosis and plan.
In the meantime, I am cleared to cycle - I just have to be careful. I did some short rides around the neighbjorhood over the weekend and while pedaling felt fine, i can't really stand and mash and put weight on it yet.

Today I might have pulled my brake off and put the Cinelli Pepper risers back on. Bought the All-City brake lever adapter, and it doesn't fit. Going down to the shop and into town for some quick errands. Will be a super slow ride that sees me on the MUP, bike lane, back neighborhood streets and bam I am at the shop. I don't even know how to skid properly. This should be interesting.
I have both Archetypes and TB14s on road bikes - great stuff.
Today I am serving jury duty. It's municipal court and if I'm not selected to hear a case I should be outta here by 1.
Fingers crossed!
Also the guy sitting next to me is sleeping and snoring.

Today I didn't die on the bike. Awesome day to get out and just ride down to the business area to run errands like the bank, post office, bike shop, lunch, AAA, etc. Haven't started the car yet today. Might go later to the grocery store and do a grocery shopping and ride it home. Store is like a mile from me or so?

Bike grocery runs are ace. Did that today, then a 3 mile run because I didn't have time for a proper ride. Or rather I did have time for a ride but I wasted it lazing around for an hour in bed after I woke up.

(Most) days I'm on the road by 6:30. Sometimes though I'm too tired and unmotivated - those are probably the days you should stay in bed anyway.

30% of your salary??? Wow!!!! Here we do IRAs and they match your contribution up to 3%.
EDIT: I Must be thinking about this wrong - they probably match 30% of your absolute contribution. Here, they match 100% of your contribution, up to 3% of your salary over the period.

I work late hours so no dawn patrol for me, but yeah sometimes I wake up and just don't have it, so it seems better to lay off.

Your employer matches your contributions dollar for dollar? Or are you thinking of percent vested?
30% is our contribution match with a cap at $3,400 per person. We are 100% vested the moment we join the plan.
Today my fig trees are starting to re-green after a long winter. Now I just have to wait until October for the harvest.
Which reminds me, too, that I've been lazy and haven't gotten around to any of my spring planting yet. Think I'll commit to doing that this weekend.
