Meat touring
I'm off to work, so I don't have time to read the "vegetarian touring" article now. The idea sounds great. I'm a big veggie eater, but not a vegetarian. I'm more of a meat (fish) and greens guy, which brings me to the topic at hand: Do any of you folks pack jerky or some kind of dried meat or fish? I'm not talking about convenience store jerky (that stuff is deadly IMO); I'm talking about good high-qualtiy jerky cured with salt only.

I buy what I can find along the way. Usually that is stuff you wouldn't approve of, but sometimes I can find home made stuff at a produce stand or something.
I am not willing to carry much food from home, and won't bother with mail drops for jerky.
Not dried, but foil packages of tuna or salmon are good and somewhat readily available.
Edit, forgot to mention:
Various had sausages are good and keep well. Salami, pepperoni, etc. Also hard cheeses.

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.
My wife brings jerky, but I can't stand the smell. I pack sliced deli. In warm weather, I'll put it in a cooler.

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG
Does tuna fish in a can count?
I love jerky, we typically make our own at home so we can use our choice of spices. Typically beef and venison. Tried mutton one time but wasn't impressed. We also dry fruits and veggies.

Do you do long tours? If so do you do mail drops, carry a large supply, or something else? I am always curious about that when folks talk about taking home dried veggies, home made jerky, etc.
I generally don't like to carry more than a few days supply of food at most and prefer to buy daily when possible. Mail drops are fine, but having to deal with them with the frequency that would be necessary makes me inclined to tolerate what I can buy as I go food wise.
