Portsmouth 3 Crit - I had to race one more time, didn't I? Sad, very sad Good part is that I met RTC as we drove up together. He immediately signed up to volunteer and got some DD coffee and a cool t-shirt. Gonna do some work and then go watch the p123. Looking forward to dropping some weight and long, easy rides.

When you finish behind guys who mtb full time and just got back from Worlds, you can't take 5th too hard

Cooptown Classic. 88km. Handicap.
I was on + 18 Minutes.
Overshifted and dropped the chain off the big ring 500m from the start. OTB. DNF. At least I got a good training ride in with plenty of protein (clouds of midges) and attacked by a couple of magpies.

Tour de Fair Haven in NJ today. We had 95(!) starters (3/4) on an 8 turn 3 mile circuit race. Was a pretty tough pace I thought. I think the biggest issue was going from 30mph to 15mph on every damn corner. Overall, stuck with the pack the whole time but did not want to get involved in the sprint. I had originally planned on trying to make a go of it going into the first turn of 4 quick turns before the straight away (probably 1 mile and chain from the finish) but lost my chain. Got back up and had not much left.

I was there too, IIRC you race for Westwood? The 95 starters on that course was absurd. It would have been a fun race if there was no yellow line rule or there were more like 50 racers.
I ended up top 20, passing a couple dozen people in the sprint, I literally could not move up during the race with so many people in the field.
My first race as a 3, not what I was looking for.

Henleyville Road Race
Cat 4
72 miles
Result: 1st
Smaller field, threat of rain, end of season and Henleyville is far from the Bay Area. Decided I would cover all moves by Chico Corsa because they had the numbers. One of their guys went off the front 10 miles in and I covered. I figured it was too early, but I went anyways. My teammate wasn't gonna chase nor was Chico so we got a sizable gap. With about 40-45 miles to go he cracked and I was left to solo. I didn't think I was gonna be able to hold for 40+miles solo but I was invested so I kept going. I kept my wattage around 250-280 watts (I usually set my garmin to show watts and distance only) and I tried to block out the pain and negative thoughts. I think the mental part was as hard as the physical part. I was still making 280 watts in the final kms. There is no way I could have done that without the power meter to pace my effort
I had built a decent advantage so I was able to enjoy the final km. I zipped up my jersey, straightened it, put my glasses in the helmet vents, wiped the cytomax of my face, etc.
It was my first win ever and even though there are a few races left, I'm ending my season with a win.
Entire workout (238 watts):

yeah it was pretty nuts with all those people. i was moving around a lot but just blowing tons of energy out of the saddle after every corner. did most of the group end up staying together until the sprint?
there is another crit in rockleigh next week - should be much nicer. also prospect park 10/3 . i have never been to prospect park though.

Pcola Cycling Classic Stage Race.
Huge payouts, small fields. Format: 75 mile RR, 3.6 mile TT, 60 minute Crit.
A group of four of us decided before the race we were going to work together and split everything but TT money. The plan was to rotate through covering breaks in the RR until one or two of us got away, while the others defended. 10 minutes in, boom, the break with two of the guys goes off the front, two guys from one of the other two teams there, and two guys flying solo. I got up front and kept the rest of the field together for the next 30 miles, not interfering with anyone trying to rotate but definitely chasing and shutting down any bridge/chase group attempt. Unfortunately for the other team, their two guys got dropped from the break half-way through the race. One of our guys won, the other got 4th. At the end of the race, our two guys had four minutes on the main field on GC, and ~75 seconds on the two guys from the other team. The two solo fliers were right in the mix, having picked up a 6 and 4 second time bonus, putting them 24 and 30 seconds on top of our other guy.
TT: Personally, I stank up the TT. I guess I didn't care much since I wasn't in the mix for GC, except to stay top 20 (payout was 20 deep on GC), so I was kind of mediocre. However, our #4 guy crawled to within 2 seconds of the #3 spot on GC.
Crit: Plan was to try and either get our guy sitting in 4th on GC up the road with someone who didn't matter in the overall, or at least help him pick up the time bonuses. However, luck was on the team side (and against me) as I had lined up behind the guy who was 3rd on GC, and he mechanical'ed right out of the gate, blowing up a derailer in the process, while I failed to crawl around him and latch back on as the train went ballistic from the gun. I chased hard for a lap, getting to within 15' of the field at the start of lap two, at which point I got to see the officials give the #3 guy a push back in. But he couldn't latch back on and he was immediately spit out the back. Knowing that I was far enough up on GC that even if I got lapped and latched back on, I'd still be in the money, but knowing that I didn't want to help that guy get back into the field, I just settled down into TT mode and buzzed by him. I kept TT'ing for about 20 minutes until I got lapped, then hopped on the back and tailgunned for the rest of the race, giving up 75 seconds on GC, which dropped me 3 spots.
End result: We took 1st, 3rd, 16th and 19th in GC, 1st and 4th in the RR, 8th, 14th, 19th and 22nd in the crit, and we split about $1000 four ways. All and all a good weekend.

Can anyone tell me about when races for next spring begin to be announced? I know the previous year's schedule is close but I want a specific date to look forward to.

what he said. Even then, don't get overly stressed out if a bunch of smaller races appear/disappear from the calendar as time marches on.
