Not really a numbskull, but rather a gifted copywriter. You gotta read this one:

https://www.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/161488395.html

50cm Univega frameset: Castaway Steel Goddess, ready to ride the road! - $128 (north beach / telegraph hill)

She is a gem, a double butted, fully lugged, cromo-steel frame with minimal braze-on’s, CREATED by skilled Japanese “steel-men”. A castaway Steel Goddess is waiting!! Stripped to her steel soul searching for her “single” Savior!

You know you have been searching for this little black beauty. This 50cm of small straight steel sweetness has been waiting over 25 years, silently searching for her new soul-mate! With bonds having been stripped away and being freed from the clamps and cables the once bound her, NAKED STRENGTH pulsates from her slightly scared steel. She silently sings the sad songs of a single soul wanting to bond her steel with the sweat of an owner who will ride her to greatness but will respect her in the morning! Can you hear her call? The plea of a castaway Goddess, ready to ride the road without regret’s OR Gears!

Her Stats!
Make: UNIVEGA (Made by Miyata!)
Color: Black (25 years of life leaves only cosmetic wear that she wears well!)
SIZE: 50cm (seat tube/top tube): 50/53.5
120mm REAR HUB SPREAD!! So Slide that Track wheel right on!!
YEAR: 1980-3 est.
(Age is based on the 120mm rear, the single “Cromo” decal and Univega “BADGE”)
Frame Composition: Miyata CR-MO DB tubing, Miyata Professional lugs
SEXUAL PREFERENCE: She is comfortable between either a Woman OR a Mans legs! She wants only to be ridden!

A Bianchi Pista for $600 that rides like a tin bedpan or a sweet old steel Goddess that will ride smooth forever. Better Steel! Better Build. Better Ride! Better Bang. 25 years from now you will still have this beauty between your legs long after a POS Chinese Pista has been ground into Tsingtao Beer beer cans!!

ONLY $128!! A gift! But to make you feel like you worked to save her I will take a $100! Heck you spend $100 on a haircut! She will not care what your hair looks like!

She is in a North Beach basement WAITING for you to call (408) 828-3695 now while she is still singing to you!!!

Oh god. Is this idiot trying to insinuate that some bicycles are bisexual?

What next, gay bicycles? Straight bicycles? Metrosexual bicycles? Give me a break!

Oy vey.

You mean you didn't know??? Anyway, check this out, a guy trying to sell a walmart bike with a nice $30 mark up from list price of $70. I see this all the time and I can't stand it - I know it is unlikely, but what if some poor soul bought it thinking it was a bike instead of the bike-shaped object it actually is??

The tone of this is kind of reminiscent of some classic ad copy, that used to promote the 1923 Jordan Playboy automobile:

"SOMEWHERE west of Laramie there's a bronco-busting girl who knows what I'm talking about. She can tell what a sassy pony, that's a cross between greased lightning and the place where it hits, can do with eleven hundred pounds of steel and action when he's going high, wide and handsome.

The truth is - the Playboy was built for her.

Built for the lass whose face is brown with the sun when the day is done of revel and romp and race. She loves the cross of the wild and the tame. There's a savor of links about that car
of laughter and lilt and light
a hint of old loves and saddle and quirt. It's a brawny thing
yet a graceful thing for the sweep o' the Avenue.

Step into the Playboy when the hour grows dull with things gone dead and stale. Then start for the land of real living with the spirit of the lass who rides, lean and rangy, into the red horizon of a Wyoming twilight."

Hey bigbossman, if you go to S.F to see Dallas, make sure you bring your bikes because he's in North Beach just a few blocks from the Embarcadero and perfectly situated for a Golden Gate Bridge ride.

y'all are really confused. You don't go to San Fransisco to see Dallas, you go to Texas. . . .

(sorry couldn't resist).

what do you think it's worth then?

I offered 250 and she came back at 900. Looks like mid-range campy/shimano mix on a decent frame, but then I only spend 10-20 on bikes as a general rule.

I just offered $150...we'll see how it sobers her up, or if she begins ranting that Craigslisters are nothing but a bunch of @$$hole lowballers...

HE HE HE

Please post your results! If you can get it low enough, I will be happy to go take a look it's way out of my $20.00/bike range anyway, but we can dream...

Infinityeye: She ignored the email. Figures!

Raverson & Lotek: You switch your TV to Channel 1980's if you want to see Dallas.

To get back on topic, here's a Numbskull Of The Day for you folks:

https://cgi.ebay.com/Raleigh-Sport-3-...QQcmdZViewItem

It's

Not a Specialized Schwinn Trek.
Not a 20" frame (21").
Not unique.
Not one of a kind.
Not rare.

Oh, and does "oiled back hub" mean that the lubricant is dribbling over the shell?

Now here's a seller operating from an information deficit:

A Raleigh Grand Prix with "Reynolds 551 chromoly tubing" and "french bottom bracket"? Hmm.
