Check out a couple of details as shown in the pics of this one:
--the angle of the saddle
--the front fender installed as a rear fender
--the rear brake cable that's out of control

Those descriptive, grainy 1970's photos demonstrating the fender are not the most flattering - for the rider.

So if this one is an "English three speed cruiser," what's all that junk hanging off the rear dropout that looks suspiciously like a gear cluster and a rear derailler? Hmm.

Here's one I just saw on ebay (I like older sirrus and allez, but don't have one (yet)). Perhaps it's not old enough to qualify for this forum, but too late because I've posted it now.

I could be wrong but I don't think they made Sirrus out of Carbon Fiber. The expense of a carbon frame would not match with the rest of the components on that bike. Those look like low end road components to me, but then, there aren't any close ups, so I could be wrong there. And from whats left of that saddle, I'd say it was a comfort saddle.

I just wanted to point out the one highlighted line. In 1981 you could almost count Japanese road bikes on one hand ...

NISHIKI COMP II 58cm High-End Road Bike - Made In Japan
VERY FEW road bikes were made in the country of Japan. Generally, the ones made there were of the highest quality, and used to display the Japanese frame-making art as production was shifted to Taiwan and other locations.
THIS ONE: NISHIKI COMP II 58cm
Dia-Compe Brakes & Levers.
Suntour Derailleurs & Downtube Levers.
Araya 700C Wheels with 5-speed freewheel on rear
Super-Mity Cranks with Dual Drilled Chainrings
Butted, Lugged, Hand Assembled 58cm Frame, Red Paint, circa 1981.
$450 for this fine, roadworthy upper-end road bike for someone about 6' tall.
- which also happens to be a collector's bike.
Beautiful original red paint.

We all hate overpricing on cheap stuff, but don't you despise it when Craigslist ads are composed solely of a Wikipedia biography?

Saw that the numbers on the BB shell were pre-1951 and who knows what other "research" they did to come up with the 1939 date. I'd help them out with dating the bike, but with that feedback they'd probably not welcome the suggestion.
