that would be a goo deal! and yeah, that'd be a totally inappropriate ride with your basic Descente kit and oakley thumps.

This one has me wondering about the configuration that would produce "13 speeds." Is it like the amp in Spinal Tap that went up to 11 rather than 10?

Simple -- take a 15-speed and knock about four links out of the chain; that oughta leave you with 13 or so...

LOL! I just picked up a "Paramount" worth "hundreds."
I was rubbernecking past a garage sale when I spied handlebars and had the wife pull over. I went over and looked at one old Schwinn that had no id save for its headbadge. The guy running the sale came over and started bragging up the bike, telling me that Paramounts were selling for hundreds of dollars. He then pointed out that the waterbottle cage was inscribed "Paramount."
I told him that Paramounts didn't come with stem shifters and hook on rear deraillers and that I believed this was a World Sport.
He must have just been ignorant, and not dishonest. He asked what I'd give and I offered 25.
Too me it was a good deal for the lugged steel frame and the decent rack and panniers that had been added.
What other Schwinn but a world Sport could this be?

I just don't understand these ******bags that think there's someone out there who's going to come and by their entire junk collection in one fell swoop. I think the best way to deal with these guys is to figure out where the transfer station nearest to their house is, because that's likely where his 'inventory' is headed.

How's about this:

A Raleigh Olympus, for £100? Like, $170? This was the bottom of the range drop handlebar Raleigh of the early 80's, (except the Arena, which was 5 spd). It was made of gas pipe, and if brand new would be worth about £70 in my reckoning. If he really spent £160 on servicing it, he's a fool. This is the sort of thing I'd expect to get for £2.50 at a car boot sale, and then it wouldn't be worth keeping!

The weighted pedals on the Traveler were the difference that I noticed.
What the heck is the bike parked next to?

Not a Numbskull, but I figure it fits here:

"[I] Don't know what to call this NEW custom built aluminum frame 18" city bike"
I know what to call it...UGLY.

This one comes courtesy of the Schwinn forum, and I hope that you fellows will express your distaste at this seller:
https://www.schwinnbike.com/heritage/...ad.php?t=33251
"Best offer over 200.00."
I bid $201!
Hell, how those Schwinn fellows came up with these prices for ugly little rustbucket Krates is beyond me, BUT to have the gall to state a minimum price, then ask for buyers to blindly shell out more against each other doesn't seem right. Take it to eBay, dammit!

Is it just me, or are there a higher proportion of numbskulls in the Boston area? It's either that, or you're spending a lot of time on the Boston Craigslist.

Its a Honda NC 50 b from 1978. I picked it up at another garage sale for $30 bucks. I tinkered with that thing for 3 days before I got it to cough back to life. Its amazing what 20+ years of old gasoline will do to a carburetor.
Its running like a dream now and my wife plans to use it to get to work.

We have numbskulls here in San Diego, too.
Here is a lovely "1938 Archer 3-speed" for a mere $1000! Please don't all respond at once......

Hahaha, that Sunbeam ad is priceless, particularly as it's a '70s machine with a replacement saddle, bent steer tube (wonder how he keeps the loose bearings in the raceway), and old mis-matched tyres.
Here's my entry for Numbskull Pricing Of The Day:

He probably thinks he can get a mint out of that post-'76 chainwheel selling it to a U.S. collector...

Oh, stop -- you guys are killing me! The Sunbeam guy probably paid $750 for it and is hoping to turn a quick profit.
That eBay guy from Cyprus always turns up with nice stuff but he wants a king's ransom for it.

I also have a '69 Super 90 in the garage that's part of my rotation for work in the summer - at a 22 mile each way commute, it's just a bit too long to bicycle. The 90 gives me 100mpg. Who cares what they charge for gas!

Ha! When I was 9 years old (1964), my big sister stuck me on her Super 90, gave me a shove, and created a monster. Always had at least one bike until about five years ago.

Say...are you from the Minneapolis area? Are you interested in shipping a pair of Raleighs?
