This is not really a Numbskull Of The Day, but I figured I'd blast the carbon-fibie folks with this for the heck of it:

https://miami.craigslist.org/bik/151700119.html

"Carbon fiber this. Carbon fiber that. Weight is down to 22.7 lbs."

Hah!

Compare that to my '83 Peugeot PSV-10 is 18.5 lbs (Super Vitus 980) and '84 Raleigh Competition at 20 lbs exact (Raleigh 555SL). That's with clinchers on both - not even with so-called lightweight sewups!

I need not mention that many of us here own 20 and sub 20-pound steel roadbikes that could beat the stuffing (in various ways) out of this sticker-laden, carbon-fiber SUV of a bike...

-Kurt

P.S.: It also seems as if he forgot the C700 is a Urban/Hybrid machine, and not a true "racing" a.k.a. "road" bicycle.

Heck, my steel mountain bike only weighs a pound more than that with computer and lights mounted.

From Boston's Craig List comes this gem:

https://boston.craigslist.org/bik/151711374.html

I believe the seller is available for routine maintenance. Check out that fork alignment!

Here's the "bargain commuter/urban/pub bike" for *only* $200. I find it most interesting that the seller can't determine the exact size because the frame had been repainted. Talk about over spray!

https://boston.craigslist.org/bik/152217087.html

Still, he'll probably manage to sell it in the crazed college-kid-fueled market around here where almost every bike on the road is either a department store mtn bike or a ss/fixie.

His wife sits in the car waiting for him, bike on car carrier, knows everything about everything, especially the Schwinn company/family, is about 40yrs old, has braces.
He's trying to sell me a bike, does anyone know this guy? Can he be trusted?

I seem to recall a discussion about this guy.

this is in or around St Paul

Here's a bit of Schwinn history that I bet NO ONE knew, except this guy. You're never to old to learn, I guess.

He's close, actually... The very first run of Giant-built bikes for Schwinn had the World name on them; once they'd proved to be of acceptable quality, they started being labelled as Schwinn World models.

That actually IS an interesting bike from purely the view of history. Schwinn was uncomfortable selling an Asian-made bike, so they did not put the original "World" in their catalog, nor put a Schwinn badge on it. Within a year, Schwinn discovered its customers did not care where a bike was made, and added the imported models to the catalog. But, for many years, the catalog was always careful to point out which bikes were made in Chicago, and which were imported. It was not until the 1980's that the catalog stopped including where a Schwinn was made.

Now, I don't know if this seller is a numbskull or not, but $1200 for this bike?! Musclebikers, is that really what the market would command?

No, musclebike fans would not pay $1,200 for that.

Here's an interesting one:

https://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Raleigh-...QQcmdZViewItem

No pic. Hell, the whole bike ain't worth $80, and the damn frameset is worth diddly!

Shall the fixie riders always ride upon UO-8s and Raleigh GP and Records purchased at vastly overpriced sums from us...and shall they overlook 531!

I wonder what model "bile" that is. It looks like the same frame I've been trying to ID for a few months now.

I think the numbskulls may be the people who post craigslist links without cutting and pasting the ad in a long sticky thread.
