Bikes: More than I care to admit

Thank you kindly for the offer, but I already have one from a parts Peugeot, and that's probably one too many. while not strictly authentic, I prefer wheels without them.

This bike has been through some changes, for better or for worse -- I know not many will approve. As acquired:

The more I look at it, the more I like it. Definitely classed up with the Brooks saddle and grips.

Yes, some of those changes you made are questionable indeed - how dare you remove that lovely Pletscher rack and classy vintage stem shifters?

Seriously though, that looks like a great bike to cruise around on.

leegf, every change on that bike is an improvement. Now it just needs fenders.

Thanks! The rack didn't fit right (looks like it's meant for a full-size frame, whereas this is a youth road bike) and the shifters were from Suntour, so I don't think anything was lost from their removal

Agreed, but as LeicaLad pointed out in another thread, I think the challenge will be finding ones that fit the 24" wheels!

Oooo, nice. Paint and polish? What wheels did you use to polish the levers?

No wheels, started with 255, 400, 600 and then 1200 grinding paper and topped it of with some metal polish and elbow grease =)

Touring bike back to mountain again. It was fun, but I liked it better with knobbies. NOS folding Conti Comp Pro's, and I also found some red Ritchey SPD's for $20 at a bike swap. That was a good day. The Origin 8 Supercorsa copy is pretty comfy actually! I will be looking for an original though.,,,,BD

This 1983 Raleigh "Challenger" 10 speed (made in Canada) was acquired in mid December for $15 at a local second hand shop. No great bike or components but in decent condition. I had no immediate plans for it.
Later that week a neighbor dropped by to see if I had a bike to sell him for general purpose use around his vacation home. After changing bars and brakes and with new tires and cables it went to its new home this past Saturday. Peter is happy, an old bike was saved, and I have a few extra dollars to support my bike habit.

No worries, that's only shipping weight. They only weigh 4.936 pounds.

Yep, called a "Hite Rite". I remember doing some research on it a while back, and I think it was stock on the bike? I know it's been on there since it came to be mine around 10 years ago? LOVE the bike either way.,,,,BD

Thank you very much. Yes that is a suicide shift. It is not as hard to use as I thought it would be. It works well, I just would not want to hit a pothole or something while shifting it.
