@TimothyH I beat you by three minutes. It's a Libertas, it's a Belgian brand. I texted the seller but I'm on the fence about picking up just to part it out. I'm going to mull on it overnight. The high flange hubs and Campy bits have me wondering. And if it's got chrome socks, it's not one of the crappier Libertas models that were peddled a lot domestically.

To me that looks like a lot of bike for the money. I would grab it for sure. And if you do get it, and part it out, and you sell the bottle cage, pls keep me in mind!

Alright guys. This is only 40min away. Buyer isn't answering texts so I emailed. Will let you know if it falls in my hand. Not familiar with Libertas' line do I don't know what's stock and what's not, just that it's Belgian and it looks like it's 70s based on how it's equipped. The details on the bike are strangely similar to the 72-73ish Bobet I bought last weekend.

Gorgeous bike.

I'll never own one, but I can live with that.

A 74 Masi Gran Criterium would be enough salve.

I came across this, seems like a pretty good deal for a taller rider, especially one that appreciates vintage Japanese.

Yes, unique and very nice, I'd almost think it'd be a higher stand over than 34".

Good God. That's my size. And only 40% more than I paid for my car over a decade ago...if only I were more irresponsible. Maybe I should reconsider my life choices... (Expletive)

@daf1009 I am. If I don't want it, I'll still buy it to make sure another local BFer gets it. I can deliver at the ATL C&V lunch if I'm able to make it. Should save you a 3hr+ round trip.

TA, not TI. And I doubt that the frame is a 24"as advertised; more like a 22". Looks like it's all Reynolds, though, so a nice find for someone.

I have never owned a Serotta so might be speaking out of turn, but the pricing on these always makes me think that after fabrication, the steel must have been cooled in the tears of the Vestal Virgins.

80s/90s Bianchi Giro I believe? Full Campy. Ambiguous "make reasonable offer" and "text ony", "cash only". Not sure if legit, but passing along anyway.

Bike in need of cosmetic repair. No kick stand. Make a reasonable offer only text anytime 7708239433. In person cash only

Don't know, the $250 price for this tall Bridgestone 400 could be okay.
Seller has obviously dropped the price; text of the ad says $300 OBO.

Check out the way the seller misinterprets the Blackburn seat bag name...

I like their listing. I couldn't agree more. Just wish they had better photos of the bike!

"Also - please no "flames" about us selling an expensive bike like this. We know that in the grand scheme of things, a bicycle like this is a rather crazy first-world indulgence. But we live in a world where high-end audio speaker cables can sell for nearly $30,000 and a bicycle like this is represents the difference in price between various exotic bmw car models."

safety tips
This is a beautiful bike. The bike is tuned and ready to ride. It rides like a dream and I would love to keep it but I have too many. The paint is emaculant. The first person to ride it, will buy. Leave contact info or be deleted. If the ad is up, the bike is still for sale.

@TimothyH; @3speedslow; @due route; @daf1009; @thumpism; you guys all commented on this with some level of interest so I'm following up.

The similarity of styling/lugs/fork crown to the Bobet I picked up last week is uncanny, to the point I'd swear it was made by the same people & same parts. Either that or this actually is a Bobet re-branded as a Libertas. It's missing the head tube decal, it could theoretically be anything, although this color is typical of Libertas, not Bobet.

Bike is slightly damaged, ripple in the ST at the FD and just above it and a 2.5" x 1.5" rust patch under the BB where the serial would be. Not sure I'll be able to pull any numbers off the bike if that's where they'd be. Forged Huret dropouts, chrome socks, apparently the original blue paint, but missing all decals except the Reynolds-looking Libertas fork decal and the Reynolds 531 DT decal. There's a couple other stickers or remnants but nothing visible on them yet.

I'm guessing this is a mid-70s Libertas Competition and not one of the better Champion or Super Champion. Limited info on the internets makes it tough to say for sure. It's got a hardcore mish-mash of parts on it, so no idea what's original and what's not. Here's the parts breakdown:
  • 3speedslow: I got the shift rubbers right (Campy), you got the levers right (Suntour Power) and nobody would've guessed the Raleigh clamp holding them on
  • Suntour V GT Lux RD, Compe V FD (no date code yet)
  • Nervar Star crank w/KKT quill pedals, unknown cups
  • Shimano high flange hubs, date code AJ, Atom QR skewers
  • Mavic 700C rims, look like Montlereys, with date code 0474 or 7404 (going from memory)
  • Dia Compe levers, CLB hoods, Universal CP calipers
  • Birmalux seatpost w/Avocet Touring WI saddle
  • SR Stem, unknown randonneur bars, cloth wrapped
  • Bar mount bottle holder in very restorable shape (only light rust)
  • Pletscher model C rack
  • Raleigh seat binder bolt
  • Custom zip-tie TT clamps

I bought at asking price because half a dozen others called on the bike (high interest = asking price or move on). It's got asking price in parts either way. I won't know more until I have time to tear it down and inspect the ST damage and figure out whether the BB shell rust got into the ST lug seam.
