I was the lucky winner on this one. Paint is good but not great, wheels were slightly out of true but it seemed like a pretty good deal. I've never had a columbus tenax frame before, am I right to assume it'll be a nice ride?

This is a Stumpjumper Sport, a notch down from the top-of-the-line Stumpjumper of the day. Still, looks like it's in nice shape and at a good price.

As always, I'm glad someone from here got it. How was the drive to Duluth? These Schwinns have a big following here. Thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...bike-here.html

Fellow Tempo owner here. Did not know a thing about them until I built one up last year. I've said it many times throughout these forums that I continue to be impressed with how fast and responsive the Tempo is. I had mine in a fast paceline last weekend and it was very stable and kept asking for more! I have other vintage steel I wouldn't be as comfortable with at those speeds. You got a great deal and should love the bike.

That's a cool looking bike, but it brings to mind a question I've had for quite some time: What is the deal with the forward tilt of pullback handlebars?

I've seen this mainly on cruisers, but now it's starting to creep into the 3-speed community as well. The natural position of the hands would dictate the opposite; a slight backward tilt like that which is built into the bars on my Roadster:

The angle of these bars cannot be adjusted, they come with the stem as a unit. But when I ride this bike, my hands just fall naturally onto the grips. This forward tilt thing just looks awkward by comparison. Can anybody out there clue me in?

Thanks,
DQR

If parted out, sure - but why? That's an SLX Basso with a lot of chrome and original paint in super condition. The parts mix is absolutely PC and top of the line. Bike is a steal at that price - full stop.

I think the paint issues are scaring people away - not that the seller seems to be showing what it is he's referring to. Personally, I just think the paint looks waaaay too thick. This is at least the third time he's listed it.

It's too look "bad". In So Cal it may stem from either the low rider bike or the beach cruiser. Chicken or egg?

I checked the bike out. Somewhat below the condition of bikes that I would like to own and ride. Quite a few paint chips. I am not a reseller for profit. I am more interested in the components for rebuilding other bikes, specially the Super Record group. Worth it for that purpose? To DD, what does "PC" mean?

Great deal IMO! I paid about the same for one in not as nice of shape. Haven't really rode it much, it's waiting a complete rehab. But I also have Tenax Voyageur and Super Sport, and both are great bikes.

No affiliation. The seller posted this very nice Trek to the Classic Rendezvous list yesterday.

Vintage TREK Bicycle

He hasn't been able to locate the serial number (yet), but my guess is early 80s 720.

No, looks legit. Someone Singlespeeded the bike, but on bull horns, and left everything unmolested. If only more SS conversions happened that way. Price is high for it needing reconversion, but what isn't expensive in NYC.

Oh wait, my well loved $40 Panasonic.

If you're interested in the bike, I'd talk with the seller. He seems to mostly want to see that it goes to someone who would appreciate it. From his description on CR, it didn't seem like it's been ridden much. I have no idea what, if any, research went into his asking price.

Thanks. It is a nice bike, too small for me though. Sounds like good advice to contact seller and make an offer if interested.
