...I have no idea what they used on this limited run of early cross bikes, but the road frames from that time period are all Columbus SL . I think SLX came later than this bike. T-Mar would know, if he checks in here. Otherwise he usually reads the C+V valuations threads. A cross bike might be made of a heavier gauge tubing, like Cromor or Aelle.

I have the exact same bike in the exact same year/model/color, would need to look back but I think I paid stole it for $160? I posted it in the appraisal forum over here when I got it: Mid-ish 80s Cdale?
Anyway, I was planning to clean it up, new tires, re-sell. Tossed on some date/model-matching clinchers on it, new tires, tuned it up, then rode it around the neighborhood. What was expected to be a sprint around a mile or two turned into 20x that. I absolutely loved how it felt, so much I still have that bike, 2½ years later, and won't be getting rid of it any time soon.
I would say $225 is a fair shake any day of the week, but try to talk the seller down to $200. Sell the NR rear derailleur for $40-50 and get a 600 mech back on there, wash it up and ride it like you stole it. I can't express enough my astonishment about how much I liked mine.

Enzobici is another seller in Italy with cool stuff. Here's a NOS pair of Bismarck hubs with what appear to me to be a decent starting bid.

WV is not flat..

All the upper level steel frames from Big S during this time period were very well made, they put a lot of expertise into design, production and manufacture of them.
The braintrust on these was second to none. Merz, Neenan, DiNucci and many others really rocked the program on these.

Sucks, I learned this too late. About 6-8 months ago there was an estate sale south of me and the owner of the house was a former Schwinn dealer. Had piles and piles of NOS bikes in basement of the house. A few Sequoias and Sierras in the mix, but lots of low end stuff as well.
There was a cool Paramount mixte but they wanted $800 for it. Most of the NIB bikes were reasonable, $100-200. But I wasn't hunting for anything at the time and unwilling to open every single box to figure out what was in it (labels were gone on a number). IIRC, some other bikes as well, I remember a Sannino being in the mix, and a couple other higher-end Italians with odd hardware choices.
Instead, I ended up walking away with a NOS mid-80s Shimano 600 partial group on the cheap-cheap and I was able to give to a fellow BF'er at a great price. Hindsight 20/20, I wish I would've taken more time looking around but my hands were full, I had to wait for a good hour in the heat to get in the door despite getting there 30 minutes early, and I was beat.

Even with the tool marks on the bolts, that's a steal! I prefer swapping out the stock hardware with allenhead bolts, similar to what Mavic (IIRC) did with their "rebranded" Simplex retrofrictions.
