So I have the Schwinn Paramount on Craigslist mentioned in an earlier post (probably a page or two back). 1972. Well used as has been mentioned (though I have cleaned a ton of gunk off it despite what it looks like). Someone wants to trade me what he says is a 1985 Klein Quantum for the Paramount. No decals on the bike - the only sticker has patents pending. Some components I guess are original. Different stem, handle bars, seatpost. Says other parts are Shimano tricolor 600. I don't know anything about Klein bikes. His is ready to ride. My gut says it probably isn't a good trade. Any opinions.

Just say NO! Not a Klein expert or fan at all, that being said they are good bikes and have many fans. Keep the Paramount, change the grease and preserve it, no resto needed here, you will regret sending it down the road. Quick ebay search shows the Kleins sell for $200 to $500 on a good day, not even close at all IMHO. Also, only small chainring is worn out and another is easy to get, the front derailleur cable may have had something to do with this as it is not routed correctly, it needs to go under both tabs on the guide to work smoothly.

Just say NO. That Paramount appeared to be very well taken care of despite the worn parts. Chrome Paramounts draw a premium from many people, and as it sits you should be able to get $800 + IMO. If it fits you, I would hang onto it.

74 Colin Laing 10 speed - $600 (Hopkinton)

74 Colin Laing custom bicycle, 22", tight rear triangle.
Reynolds 531 throughout.
Built by renouned frame builder Colin Laing in England before his move to Arizona.
Mostly Campagnolo Record components incl crankset and chainrings, brakes, shifters, headset, seat post.
Campy super record pedals.
A set of my old training wheels are on the bike. Campy skewers (I believe). 10 speed setup.
TTT titanium bottom bracket axle

I built the bike in 1974 for mainly criterium races. Fork is angled more like a road bike, allowing use for longer roadraces and training. Tubular tires. I had other bikes for riding around town and training in the rain. Brakes are set up for a crit, so rear cluster can be shifted right hand and rear brake squeezed left hand. Rear brake under stays because....cool and lower moment when turning. Saved me 0.00000002 miliseconds in a 10 mile race!

Bike is ridable. Never crashed.

Feel free to ask for specific measurements or pictures or to come evaluate it. It has spent most of its life hanging in my basement.

Asking $600.

Any giant humans looking for a Schwinn Sports Tourer? Mistakenly listed as a Continental, by the original owner. I have notified them of that, and that the price does not need to be raised accordingly. I bet they will double it though, if they're a usual seller type. One of the nicest condition ones I've ever seen though. If it was smaller, I'd be asking friends for money, hehe.,,,,BD

Price was very attractive as a buyer price, not quite there as a flip. I expected it to sell in this market, but I waited a week and figured I'd take a shot. Sent over an email asking if the bike was available (would have tried to go in at $700) and she told me that it had sold same day for more than she asked.

On the plus side my follow up question, do you have any parts, yielded a positive result and I got a pretty decent deal on a saddle.

Raleigh Competition Frame

Wow, either at Retrobike.UK or here, someone posted a lavender or purple Carlton in the past year, well, they are calling this a 1971 Raleigh Competition. Beautiful. Only $120. 531, Carlton Race Approved.

https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/bik/5673299554.html

1971 Raleigh Competition Road bike - Nottingham England, in great shape and very clean

Renyolds 531 frame and fork, Carlton race approved

Frame measures approx 22 inches

Original paint, decals and chrome - all in very good shape.

Purple in color with gold highlights

headset just serviced. Head tube faced and bottom bracket shell faced and tapped.

frameset includes original fork, headset, stem, handle bars, and seatpost binder bolt

$120

-----------

531 and Raleigh decals all in tact, slick as can be.

From our friends in Milwaukee, so hopefully, they work out things there.

Good deal, obviously, one would want to inspect it. Sometimes the lousy picture sales are under a lot of people's radar and make for a good buy.

Actually, he's been offering it for $275 for about 2.5 years. And, used to have better pics of it, too.
