Need help with a Bianchi

Well im new here and did post in the intro section but didnt want to cluter it with my problem but know i can get some answers in this thread. I bought and unknown modle and year Bianchi a few weeks back from a local craigslist posting for $20. The price wasnt the catch but the Bianchi name was. It looks hammered, no wheels a rusty frame, shimano componets with a sakae mtb stem, a green rusted flat bar and a giant saddle. I honestly didnt know what modle or year it was and nor did the seller but he said he had no time for it so he was selling it. So after buying it i started searching online and also in my home workshop. What i did find out is that it took 27" wheels and 700c so off the bat i knew it was some sort of hybrid. It came with a 1" headset which i though was kinda weird and the rear dropouts didnt have the integrated rear derailluer tab, instead it was on the derailluer itself. It had the Eduardo Bianchi eagle in grey on the head tube with Bianchi on the lower tube and the seat tube. The original paint was black and the declas were kinda faded. Can someone please help me on this cause even Daniel from Bianchi cant tell me what is is and ive emailed him a few times. Ill try to post up pics, for some reason they came up kinda small.

Hello Screwysquirlle, welcome to the forums. First what is odd about a 1" headset? They were pretty standard until about 1990. This bike looks to be from the mid '80s so 1" would be correct. Can you post some better pics? maybe closeups of some of the joints? What brand and model cranks of and derailleurs does it have? Are you sure about the wheels? is it 27" or 700c?

Where is this bike? Here in the states I don't think there was ever a hybrid without a RD hanger and certainly not one with that decal style.
I can't see much detail in these pics so hard to tell much. Is the frame lugged or tigged?

I've got to agree that fork clearance appears quite narrow and looks like a 700C fork to me, yet the stay clearance appears much wider. Also it's Unicrown and the frame construction appears to be lugless. Those frame features plus the decal style should put it circa 1987-1988. What's the serial number?

I'd like to see better pictures too. The dropouts do look stamped and the stay tops look like they're just crimped to close them. While it appears to be an inexpensive headset, I agree that 1" is typical for the era.

Yea sorry for the crappy pictures, the rear drop outs do looked stamped and look pretty similar to the elcheapo bike i bought in wally world. The reason i said either 27" or 700c is cuz i tried a set of 27's i had at home and they fit one with not clearance issues in the rear and i have a set of 700c's on it now. As for the bb, it was a shimano 51 was the last number i remember and it came wit mostly all shimano componets other then the stem and bars. The stem was a sakae but the bar is no name. I didnt think that the headset would be a 1" but when trying to find a new one, i found out it was oversized since the od of the cups measured 32.8mm. As for the serial number its on the lower part of the bb and its 41130544

The bike was purchased here in the states in Belmwar NJ and i live in Vineland NJ. Rite now the bike was resprayed another color and most of the cable guides were removed for a cleaner look. Ive supplied a few pics of the bike before and now. Thanks for chiming in and givin me some knowlegde on this bianchi.

What it is/was no longer matters. Any value it may have had is lost with the paint and brazeons.

BTW just because 27" or 700c wheels will fit in the frame, they fit almost all 26" wheeled mountain bikes, it is whether the cantilever brakes matched up with the rim on 27" or 700c or 26" wheel.

Thats another thing, they matched up with 27" wheels, the 26" spares i had didnt reach. And i see that chopping the parts off did devalue the bike. This bike was in really bad conditon when i got it and what looks like a poor attempt to clean off the rust with a fubar angle grinder that left the ones side with deep what looks like gouges. Just to bring it back to decent shape would consist of using body filler or ground down the frame pretty good to be smooth. I dont believe in throwing away a bike unless the frame is badly bent or cracked and even then it could be fixed to a point. Even the clamp for the seat post was seized to the point it had to be cut off, it wouldnt turn even with pb blaster left overnite. If the frame was in better condition with no rust, i would have loved to have converted it to a 29er if possible. I already am lookin for a near decent bianchi or motobecane frame for a nice road bike or pista conversion but wit me being unemployed at the moment i cant. I already let a really nice bianchi slip through my fingers the other day. I know doing what i did made me look like a monster to some of the aficinados here but i like to make things look like they are still new. Even if it involves taking a good bike and cuttin off some of its glory. Bianchigirl im sorry you had to hear that from me but i couldnt have imagine what some one else would have dont like spraybomb a badly rusting frame. I took the time to take off all the paint and prep the frame up to bring it back to life. Its gotten a better responce by some that i know buy im still a newb here so i know im goin to get a tounge lashing by many of you here and especially you. An attempt to get an idea of what the modle and year is what i was looking for but a better understand is more of a lesson then anything else rite now.

One thing i did forget to mention, most of the parts ive been aquiring are campy bottom bracket, brakes that im still waitin for, seat post clamp, crank arms, and 44t chainring, itm seat post, selle italia saddle, miche pista chain, cinelli 110mm stem with drop bars and bart tape, cane creek crosstop brake lever and origin8 wheelset with 16t cog.

FWIW, the serial number does match any known format used by Bianchi or their contractors.

There is a slight possibility this was an '84 Alaska but they didn't have that gusset or brace at the HT/DT lug.

Thats one thing i did notice, the bracing. The rear brake bosses and rear cable guide along with the ones on the top tube were similar to a few of the Advantage's, San Jose's, Super Grizzly's and Valle's ive seen online but ive never seen them with the bracing. I know theres alot of different models out there but could it be that Bianchi has that many that not everyone has seen them or heard of them.
