An abandoned dog.

I watched as the owner sped off, and the dog chased the truck for a few yards. The look of confusion and eventual realization of betrayal was heartbreaking to watch.

Yesterday, we were on a country road, and about 100 feet ahead of us, a few deer cross from right to left, and at the same time, 80 feet ahead of us, a flock of turkeys crossed from left to right. I think there were two adult turkeys and about eight or ten chicks, if that's what they're called. It happened much faster than time would allow to take a picture.

Cool! Last week, two adult turkeys flew across the MUP at a local metropark. Startled me, since they were at eye level and about 20 feet ahead of me. I see turkey buzzards pretty often, but those are the first turkeys I've seen since moving to Columbus 2 years ago.

Road finds: A $29.99 wireless Bontrager cycling computer in perfect condition. Unfortunately, a replacement wireless speed sensor and magnet runs about $20, so it's a fancy clock on my dresser. On another ride, I saw a cell-phone sized Garmin, but it had failed the car test - couldn't take the pressure!

Passed a landscaper's limb lopper, but it was ~3 feet long, so I left it on the shoulder.

I hate that schit. When I use to live in the Mojave Desert these kind gentle human beings would take their dogs out into the desert and drop them off...REALLY? not sure how many of those dogs survived but I would see dead carcass's every once in awhile. I saw carcass's where people did that with horses too. Of course as sad as that is it does make one wonder how many humans are buried in the desert that will never be found, that would be worse than a dead dog or horse. But people can be a lot sicker than all of that even. I've seen some horribly sickening things that people did to other people that I will never discuss here or even with my own family. When you consider all the horrific crap people did to others over the course of thousands of years...we haven't changed at all despite supposedly what evolution is changing us from worse to better, or evolving due to lessons learned, despite all of our great modern technology, we're still an insane species.

Yesterday I found a pair of Wiss W912 shop shears. Unfortunately the ergonomic parts of the handle are beat up and scratchy from being on the road and probably run over a few times, but otherwise they seem in great shape, they will be a welcome addition to my garage. The shears I got in there are crap, I hate having to try to use them

You can get at Home improvement places liquid rubber called Plasti dip that you could dip the handles into and it will coat the handles then dry. Just be careful not to buy too much because once you open the can and use it whatever is left over will eventually dry up even in the resealed can. So you might want to find other things to coat that you always wanted to but never did.

Good idea. I have a spray can of that stuff from a long time ago, hopefully that's still good. I could probably sand the rough bits down a bit too.

On my way into work I found a USO Care Package pack with bicycle parts in it. Suspect it belonged to one of the homeless that camp out along Campbell Creek. The city has been cracking down on the camps and I have seen several "moving" with all their belongings along the MUP.

LOL.
They may have been there for the same reason - apparently a Nissan commercial. Since Nissan (Datsun) made Japanese WW-II tanks, I'm very curious to see how an American tank will be used in their commercial, and what it has to do with ice cream.

Or maybe they were just selling ice cream to the film crew.

The large fish head that turned up last week is still there this week. ::is bemused:: Possibly the most random item I've seen, right up there with a tank.

Rode the Mississippi River bike trail through Minnesota this summer. Crossed paths with quite the assortment of road kill. Plenty of hand tools, scissors, life jackets, cooler lids, fishing rod covers and a California raisin saxophone player figurine, minus the saxophone. He's now mounted on my handlebars. Came to realize Minnesotans love their bananas. Must have rode by 10-20 banana peels every day. They where everywhere.
