That's a great question. For me it was a career change. I used to work in manufacturing and then moved to Florida and opened a guided bike tour business. I admit that I haven't sold my car...yet, but I probably don't drive more than 5-10 miles per week. I do ride to work every day saving the car for errands.

I wish I had a shower in my shop but alas my funds won't allow me to add one to the shop. My commute is only about 5 miles each way so I don't work up too much of a sweat.

Wish more people would do the bike to work deal.

A) Occupation - Lawyer

B) Commuting Distance - 16 miles one way

C) When at work I change clothes after cleaning up in a sink in a remote mens room.

D) Where bike is parked - in an office

E) Number of years commuting - 6 months

F) My schedule varies. I am not always working at a location to which I can ride (not safe to park, dangerous area, no clean up facilities...). I often have to be places, after work, to which I must wear a suit and tie (that is not wrinkled and wet).

Wow, if you worked on the station itself you would get the prize for longest commute.

Hey velogirl,
Who do you work for planning/L.A. in DC?

Myself-
A) Occupation - Environmental planning student

B) Commuting Distance - 8 miles one way

C) I ride in street clothes, usually don't have to change as most of my car-driving classmates are dressed worse than I am

D) Where bike is parked - in a big group rack out front with a couple of dozen other bikes

E) Number of years commuting - off an on for about a year

F) Year-round as much as my schedule allows. My classes shift every semester, so some months are easier to schedule than others. I'm trying to be more consistent about multi-modal routes including buses and trains but that becomes a pain when its a different route every day.
