Commuter Demographic - just curious

53 y.o. male.
I've been commuting since my first job at age 15- almost 40 years of bike commuting!! My current commute is a 21 mile RT. I use the bike as my primary means of transport and take off on tours and long rides whenever possible.
year round commuter- yay! to studded snow tires!
my wife, who does not post here, rides 16 miles RT each day (3 season thus far tho she's threatening to go year round this year). she is much younger than me but still, I am sure, would prefer I not post her age.

34 year old female,* started commuting two years ago 18 miles RT; summers only (well, through to October) so far, but this year I started in March and am planning to take the plunge on winter riding. Shorter commute this year, only 5 miles to college 3 days a week so it should be fairly easy. There is snow clearing all the way along my route.
(I walk to my part time job and drive to weekend craft markets.)
*35 in October, which is why I have been pushing myself hard this year and did my first century last month
Wanted to get that out of the way before this particular landmark birthday.
Oh yeah, and I live with my boyfriend and some crazy animals; no kids, but I'm a Girl Guide leader so I get to play with them and then give them back. I'm a full time student - a year to finish my BA and two years of grad school to look forward to after that. Yay for quarter-life crises...

40 year old female. Commuted off and on for 20+ years--typically 5 miles or less. Out of shape last year and got a longer commute. Commuting about 3 days/week now with electric bike, which is still a workout. (I just go faster and further than I used to.) Working up to 4-5 days of commuting. Still re-building muscle mass and need days off.
330+ days of sunshine where I live. Some of those days are pretty f---ing hot.

57 year old male. 34 mile rt, three days a week. Like to bike into town, swim at the y, quick visit with friends and then finish commute. I get bored easily. It gets quite cold up here and I am a wuus. Will avoid snow or temps below 30f. In the village where I live use the bike for most shopping/post office trips.

56 Male age group Triathlete, year round commuter only 12 miles round trip so most of it is a sprint. On the rare day that I don't ride my bicycle I ride my motorcycle. I have a truck but it doesn't get much use.

57 male in Boston. I leave about 5 AM for 14 miles one way in the reverse commute (from downtown to a suburb), then Commuter Rail train home with the bike. I ride all year, but not in wet precipitation, i.e. rain, sleet, or "wintry mix." From May to October I pump up the miles with longer routes.

36, male, married, 2 kids....I commute 23 miles round trip as much as I can (1748 miles this year since March 24). I will hang it up for at least 3 or 4 months during winter. We get 100+ inches of snow here.

24m. Law school student hailing from the great state of CT. The New Haven area if it matters.
I've been bike commuting since March '07, although I didn't commute last winter. Now I am geared up to run all winter long here, so this is going to be my first winter season of commuting. I'm very excited.

46, Male, 28 miles round trip. Year round. California Central Valley.
Winter- as cold as high 20's, low 30's. Storms with rain and temps in the mid 40's.
Summer - as hot as 106 (my record).
I have an option to take Amtrak and cut about 4 miles off my one way commute or take a bus that cuts off about 8 miles. I use these options on an average of about once a week.

53 year old single guy in the Seattle area. I ride year round, but use a mix of riding and mass transit for my 24 mile (one way) commute, so the riding portion varies between 3 and 24 miles. Usually take the bus most of the way in the morning and do most or all of the 24 miles home on the bike. Am also a runner, so I ride less on the run days.

44m, started commuting in April 2007 because doing otherwise would have been obscene for my then-new 5mi r/t commute year-round in these warm climes. It gets a bit hot (105F/40C) in the summer, but I do it anyway since it's downhill in the AM and uphill in the PM.
I do worry about the smog and my heart on those hottest summer afternoons, so I go very slowly; at such times I really ought to wear a genuine gas mask, or not ride at all, but hey.

Yeah, the bridge has been 100% made of patches since I've lived here (15 years this week). They didn't fix it for many years because its foundation was a dam that was also falling apart, and nobody knew who owned the property or the dam. Finally the state had to declare eminent domain to start work. They tore the dam out, the manmade wetlands upstream have now drained and the river is narrower and faster, in a few years I suspect it'll be a very pretty river. The bridge was one-way for a couple of months, which put me on gravel roads during which time I broke several parts of my bike including an axle. It's now 2 narrow lanes while they put in the 2nd half of the foundation and finish later with a full width bridge, I assume it'll have sidewalks that are big enough to fish off of since people used to do that.
