Been riding the Redline around town. Makes the commute fun, I guess, but I kind of need to build up a dedicated commuter. The cyclocross bike would work except that it's fall and it stays in race mode.

Now sporting Thomson Elite stem, forte carbon flat bars, and ourys.

my commuter
it's a 1981 nishiki custom sport which i paid 25 georges for. new rear tire, two new inner tubes, a bath and lube and cleaning with a lot of elbow grease. mountain bike handle bars. i may still put the drop bars back on. haven't decided yet. together we've only gone about 200 miles. that aint much around this forum, but its a heck of a start for someone that hasn't ridden in a long long time. loving the riding enough that i'm actually disappointed when the riding is over for the day.

Bikes: Giant Iguana - Freded-Up since 1992
Here is my IguanaFred Commuter
Had this bike since grad school (circa 1992). Logged many miles on it in Oklahoma (Norman), Texas (San Antonio), and now Maryland (Salisbury).
As you can see, I have Fredded-up (is that a verb, really?) my Giant Iguana.
It sparkles in the dark too.....

Here's my primary commuter- a Nishiki XRS Sport hybrid with a 23" frame and 700c tires. I just got it Labor Day weekend. It was in brand new shape with the price tags on it and everything; I paid $100 for a bike that had an original price of almost $400. It has a saddle bag for my tool kit, a rack and trunk bag for my clothes and lunch, LED head and tail lamps, and a little bell that goes Ding! And, of course, my water bottle and mini pump.

I need a little more space on it; considering a handlebar bag or panniers.
My backup commuter that I picked up a week and a half ago is a 1966 Raleigh DL-1 Tourist with a 3-speed Sturmey Archer hub. To make it roadworthy I just had to put air in the tires and put a new shift cable on. To make it commuter worthy I added Wald baskets in the front and back. I plan to use this tank of a bike primarily for grocery trips, but it works for commuting too.

a few (tiny) pics of my steamroller. Kind of set up in a touring configuration now. Brooks B-17, Schwalbe Marathon tires, MKS touring pedals, Powergrips, SKS Commuter fenders (secured w/ p-clamps)
The switch from 23c to 32c tires took a bit to get used to, but its nice to not have to brace over bumps, and to have a bike w/ the clearance if I want to use larger tires.

Generally making frames and parts that take standard sizes and are relatively well made, versatile, and sturdy. I think my next bike will be a LHT (Long haul trucker).
They also have really strange paint colors as evidenced in this post:

New colors are coming for the LHT (Truckaccino replaces Hill Street Blue, Olive still available), the Cross Check (Misty Mtn Grey replaced by Beef Gravy brown. Think beef gravy), the Karate Monkey (Chum Bucket red replaces Ouch It Hurts blue), and the Steamroller (What A Maroon replaced by Creamroller, the color of Guiness foam). All new colors will be accented with all black decals. The Creamroller complete is particularly snazzy, with almost all black parts. Alll Riiight. Giggity.

Have to love the Surlys.
Here is my Long Haul Trucker (56cm):

Needs to be cleaned, however it is equiped as such:
Fenders are SKS P45
Pump is Topeak Road Morph G, attached to the second downtube cage mount.
Saddle is Brooks B17
Bar cover is Elk Hide from Velo Orange, which I had to sew on by hand. It was time consuming. I use proofide to darken and condition it so it matches the saddle.
Saddle bag is medium-large from Acorn Bags.
Rear blinky is Cat-Eye LD1100.
Headlights are a pair of Dinotte 200L, run off of rechargable AAs.
Tires are Panaracer Pasella TG, in 700x35... would like to move down to a 32 or even 28.
Camera angle is kind of funky.

They make solid bikes but their chromoly frames aren't the best value in my opinion. 4130 chromo is ancient and you can find lighter but just as strong steel from other manufacturers.

Great Shots keep Flowing
Been working on so many things have not had time to take to many photos will ahve to do just that soon. Perhaps the purple on the black tire would make for an interesting portrait. As that purple on Serfas Semi Slicks means the traction is worn down but be an interesting shot, what do you think?

Agreed. I'm more of a traditionalist; maybe you can get better stuff, but I tend to prefer good and proven to the latest wiz-bang stuff.

Greetings to everyone. This is my 4 month old trek 7000 with some changes made from the original version. Well, it's basically a single speed with a fixed derailer in the 5th gear or the ratio of 18 to 48. It's going to be a little while until I make a full SS conversion but all the basics are there, like no shiFters and front derailer.

My new commuter bike, assembled with spare parts for now. One major thing it's missing currently is fenders. I've lowered the stem some since I took this picture. I'm going to leave the steerer long for a while until I'm sure of where I want the stem to be.

i dont have fenders. I was going to buy some but I rode in the rain several times this summer and road spray from the front tire was not a problem. The only problem with water from the tires is at speed the front tire shoots water out in front of the tire and the wind blows it up in my face. It goes straight out in front of the bike so I dont know a fender would help. My downtube is kinda wide which probably helpa and I have a rack and bag on the back. Do you guys think fenders would help?

Guy was selling two 930's, two 850's on ebay. I picked it up for 230 dollars. I don't know the rest of the history. The frame is steel. It has STX components. I've changed the stem, added egg beater pedals, put a Brooks on it, some fenders, a rack, lights and such. All totaled, I imagine I have about 600 dollars if you count the shipping from the seller.

Cool it worked never mind.
