Dawes Lightning Cross, been using it for 3 weeks with some minor upgrades. My old hybrid Fuji Supreme 2005 (seen barely visible in top right corner) just didn't cut it on my 20 mi. round trip. Pretty happy with and proud of the new ride (even if it is an online bike).

All this bike needs is new brake levers that hide the cable under the tape .

It may shock you to hear that vintage is "in."

Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.

If you loosen the alen screw in the white metal thing that attaches to the bracket it can be turned. so you can set the bracket sideways on the seat post and still be in line with the top tube when it is clipped in.

Hmm. I hadn't posted my newer bike yet. Had it for several months though. I think most of the mods are done as I am pretty happy now. I normally have a grocery pannier on it when I ride though to keep all my stuff in.

That's one of the positions I tried when I bought the lock, but the back rack doesn't allow it to get close enough to the bike for clearance.

This position works as well:

Is there anyway I could get a closer shot of how you have that mounted please?

Thanks

Thanks Supermax!! When hubby is back in town I'm going to show him. my back heel was hitting the lock yesterday which drove me nuts so maybe this will help to get him to adjust it better for me.

Bikes: See my sig...

If the rack allows this is where I like to stash my u-lock... it can be locked to / through the rack which reduces the chance it might accidentally get ejected.

That thread is stuck in perpetuity and should be seeing more updates...

Took some more snaps today now that I got my cam back. Vittoria Randonneur Pro tires feel really amazing and comfortable.

Stella Azzura Eleganza bar tape has a very grippy feeling, but nice to the touch

Avid BB7 Disc Road Adapter for regular "short reach" brake levers

I had to spread out the fender struts and use a plastic cylinder and washer to get around the disc caliper without bending the struts

Used a Problem Solver's Travel Agent to allow use of the rear V brake with regular brake levers

I just added some components to my commuter. I added tires, fenders, and LX derailleur. I want to replace the crank set and cassette this winter. I want to get a two ring crank set, and 8-Speed Road Cassette 12-26. What do you think?

kingnutterrick, don't do it. Years ago, we dreamed of being able to put triple chainrings on our bikes but it was so hard or expensive or technically impossible. I don't see the point in going back. What advantage do you think your proposal has?

You have a highly functional bike as it is, to my eyes.

I agree. If you're just looking for more gear inches swap out your largest chainring for a larger one. WAY cheaper and you keep your hill climbing gear range.

Gyeswho: Why the outboard Profile waterbottle holder when you have two sets of frame waterbottle bosses?

The fork is a Dimension Cyclocross disc

It's a fixed gear so it's easier to reach behind than down when my legs are constantly kicking. If it was freewheel, I'd have them mounted the regular way.

I have a Sugino XD 600 and LX crankset. I was just thinking I never used my lowest gear on my crankset. And this crankset is getting worn down. I was thinking of a two ring crankset, and a 8-Speed Road Cassette 12-26. My commute is a very flat run, and thought I could get smaller grouping of gearing with a 8-Speed Road Cassette 12-26.

I did what you want to do a few years ago. I didn't replace my cranks, I just removed the granny gear and adjusted the limiter screw so the front derailleur didn't go lower than the middle chain ring. I then replaced the other two chain rings with the sizes I wanted. You can change the cassette to any 8 speed you prefer, and even though you will be running a double, you can keep your long cage rear derailleur. This method involves minimal expense and labor, and functions fine.
