Bikes: '93 Trek 520, '98 Trek 1220, '01 C-dale T800

Here's my '93 Trek 520: it's a 21" frame, but I never feel comfortable on frames that are 'supposed' to fit - for me: bigger is better. It has the Shimano XT 9-speed 11-34 cassette w/Deore long-cage rear derailleur, and a Truvativ crankset with 52-42-30 front. Touring bikes = great commuters.

Yes, jdMitch, i want to know what bars they are, too.
Here's a picture of my bike which I will be using to commute on when i work up to it: (does that count? probably not)

Anyway, I don't know how far the commute is. Probably it will shake out to about 5 miles or less but I have to get used to riding on one of the busier streets in Santa Fe. Wish me luck!!

jdmitch's handlebars look like classic North Road bend, turned upside down.

turtlewoman, nice bike. I see it has the original bars and brake levers. I'd love to find some of both of those. Those Mafac brake levers with the plastic covers are one of my favorites. And those bars are wonderful.

You'll do fine. Read some articles about cycling in traffic. Some things are counter-intuitive. For example, ride out in traffic, and don't slink away along the very outer edge of the roadway.

Bikes: 1983 Raleigh Grand Prix, 2010 Fuji Cross-Comp

I'm doing a slow and thoughtful search for a replacement commuter bike while mourning the passing of my 1983 Raleigh Grand Prix, fallen victim to a snapped top tube.

Is anyone out there riding a Jamis? I tried their steel frame touring Aurora and it felt like I had warp-drives. Their Nova-Pro cross bike felt mighty nice, too.

What's the book on Jamis bikes?

Bikes: See my sig...

As always... this thread has too many wonderful bikes to comment on each and every one.

The diversity is astounding, creativity is unmatched, and you are all what I consider to be real cyclists.

My ride for today will be this little fella... he has been getting neglected of late.

I bought a 62cm '09 Aurora Elite in June for a comfy, longer-distance weekender. I'm a 15-16mph rider, not a lot of interest for hard Cannondales here. Plus I like its traditional lines. This would be a great commuter if you can store it out of the rain & prying eyes. My commuter parking is outside, I ride an '86 Bridgestone 500 for that.

I've since removed one stem spacer, the Acorn saddlebag is in, and the honey B-17 & silver SKS P45s will be in this week.

My first Jamis was a leftover '07 Quest. Brilliant ride, price, and spec, but I took a chance and bought it too small.

Bikes: At one point it was a Trek 700 something. Now it have Velocity Psycho wheels, a tape job. Thumb shifters (Shimano Deore). Corncob grouping, and drop bar ends all wrapped up in tape.

Prepare for awesome. This is my bike. The frame is too small, but it fits great stretched all the way up like that. It used to be a Novara Ariba mountain bike, but that way many moons ago. Behold:

It's been a while since I posted new pics of my main commuter, a 1994 Nishiki Sport XRS hybrid that I got as NOS just about a year ago. I changed out the seat, handlebars (for Origin8 Space Bars), added full fenders, a rack, panniers and, of course, lights.

The sun was setting as I took the pictures on my commute home tonight, and changing angles had a big effect on the hues in the pictures so they look kind of inconsistent from one to the next.

I guess it's finally time for me to post my new commuter...

(also this is my first run posting pictures, so if this doesn't work, please blame the clogged tubes of the intarwebs)

So here is Darkness:

Since these pics, I've put a PB Blaze 1/2 Watt headlight and my PB Superflash on. Up next is a disc brake-compatible rear rack, so I can get my junk off my back and back into my panniers.
