I just mounted some Zefal Paragon 45mm fenders ($18 from REI Outlet!) this weekend and I've got a Ultrafire 300 lumen LED flashlight on the way from ebay....we'll see how well this works.

Bikes: Ummmm...Cannondale F4000..Ummmmm...Yeti ARC-X Cyclocross..Ummmm...Rocky Mountain Vertex TO with a BionX PL350 Electric Conversion...Ummmmm..Rocky Mountain Cardiac..Ummmm..thats it for now I think. I'd have to go look in the basement to be sure.
Ok. Here are mine. I try and commute on them all. Not at the same time.

2009 Yeti Arc-X cyclocross. The newest arrow in my quiver. Sweet ride.

2008 Gary Fisher Presidio cyclocross converted with a flat bar. The switch to the flat bar set up made the whole bike 2lbs lighter. The front end is unreal light compared to all my other bikes.

2001 Rocky Mountain Team Only Vertex with BionX PL-350 Electric Conversion kit. So much fun. Don't knock them till you try them. It doesn't make you lazy. I pedal as hard as I normally do, you just end up going faster for the same effort. In fact it's awesome for your rest or easy days. You can soft pedal and still get to work in a decent time. Before I had my ebike, on a Monday after a weekend of long hard riding. Usually I was too tired to want to ride my bike and would drive. With the ebike I ride and get active recovery and still get to work quickly. I love it.

2006 Cannondale F4000sl. This bike is deceptively fast with slicks. I do some of my best commute times on it, even compared to my cross bikes. I'm just comfy and confident on it.
The disc brakes inspire so much confidence the riding position is perfect for an aggresive commute. The Fox Terra Logic Valve, Lefty Fork is perfection. It is fully rigid when you want it to be and absorbs when you want it to. No imput required from the rider, it just knows what you want. Plus the bike is just damn light. It should be great considering it had an MSRP in Canada of $5999.99 in 2006. No, I didn't pay that.
Last but not least.

1997 Rocky Mountain Cardiac. Fully rigid. Just a solid quality machine. The whole drivetrain has been replaced to around a Shimano Deore level. This is my winter beater commuter and early spring and late late fall training bike. Still going strong.
I hope you enjoyed viewing my collection,

Lotta nice rides to be seen in these pages
..
Ive been commuting since June 1st on this ole Trek 820 that I won a few years back in a Children's Miracle Network raffle..Cost me all of $10 for two tickets
.Total round trip is 11.66 miles and Ive added Planet Bike lights, Holux 245 GPS, Odyssey Triple Trap pedals and a few stickers..For the last week or so ive been staying on just the 48/16 gearing to see if the SS Kilo TT I'm lusting after is really for me..Ive read though that the feel is different without the rear derailleur in the picture..

I got my new commuter finally done....except for some extras I want to get now, like a carradice bag. It's a '72 Schwinn Super Sport that I liberated from an elderly friends basement where it had been living for the past 36 years. I stripped it down, cleaned it up, added moustache bars, a Brooks saddle and just one gear. It's a really nice riding single speed, and I'm going to use it as my around town bike. First train/bike commute on it tomorrow. Here are some before and after pics.

Now I want to find a vintage lighting set to complete it.

My commuter, sole form of transportation and first real bike. 2009 Bianchi Verona with planet bike fenders, topeak rack, cateye headlight/taillight, seat pack made of recycled tubes and jellibell (I'm mature!). When I'm going grocery shopping or to the farmer's market, I bungee a bright green egg crate to the back rack.

My racing commuter bike!
Well, Pictures of bikes used for commutes. I am trying to get into road racing and commuting together so this is a pic of what I ride. A Fuji Team Pro from Skate Escapes in Atlanta Ga. Carbon, with Ultegra/DurAce, I use a Crumpler Mahoubar to carry my stuff, or grocery shop.

My 2009 Salsa La Cruz
Here's the pic:

This trusty steed carries me 9 miles each way from upper Manhattan to my job in Midtown. I'm now not planning to buy a subway pass next month when the one I have now expires. My commute is a beautiful ride down the Hudson River with fantastic views of the sailboats moored in the river, the George Washington Bridge, and flashes of lower Manhattan. New Jersey, you're always there, too!
The bike:
2009 Salsa La Cruz
SRAM Rival 10 speed brifters, front der, rear der, crank (46/38), bottom bracket
XT hubs
Salsa rims, stem, bars, WTB saddle (Salsa now, right?) and even seatpost clamp
Cane Creek Crosstop levers
Kalloy seatpost :-( send me your black Thomson Elite if you like, 27.2 mm please!
Crank Bros Candy pedals
Planet Bike fenders (gotta fix that gap down at the chainstay bridge)
Axiom Streamliner DLX rack
Hand-me-down Nashbar pannier
Bell
Lights coming soon...

I'm currently lock-less. My lock is out on loan along with my 97 Jamis Eclipse to my buddy in Brooklyn. I am phenomenally fortunate. I work in midtown Manhattan. I get to keep my bike at my desk (and look at it all day long). I've got a shower in my building. I've got a beautiful ride to work. I've got a Burley d'Lite ST trailer coming so that I can pull my 8 month old twins around and get the wife back on her bike (1998 Jamis Aurora). Life is awesome.

looie, I used to have that commute. I lived in 10040, specifically on Ellwood St at Nagle Ave. I commuted to W 64 St or E 68 St. The first couple of weeks, it was tough to get up the hill that the GW bridge is on. After a while, I didn't even notice it. I also liked the Riverside Dr part of it, though it was tough in winter. The winds are chilly and strong.

I'm at Ft Washington and 190. No Riverside Drive for me. Just the path and the river. I love having that bit of hill on the way home. I imagine it will fade a little, and then grow again when I hitch the trailer up with the twins in it...

This is my new commuter. It is a KHS Solo SE. Thanks to the guys at Alpha Cycles for the awsome deal. I have changed the cog to a 14 and the brakes to avid BB7 with avid's full metal jackets housing and avid speed dial levers.

yea, im a fan of these bikes in general. i have a 90 SR600 as well. not as crazy looking and actually in pieces right now. i'd really like to get my hands on a cdale track and a cdale MTB of the same vintage to turn to an all-weather commuter weapon. then i'll be done.... then i'll start scouring for mid/late 90s giant cadex's.... wifey will be pleased.
on a serious note, if i wanted to put a rack or fenders on this bike in the future, without mount points, is this impossible?

P-clamps can be found at https://www.velo-orange.com/pforfeat.html for sure and in other places that do not currently come to mind.
Good luck,

It is not impossible. All that is required are p-clamps to clamp to the seatstays and the fork.

I've been thinking about doing a 1x8 setup on an older Trek. How hard is it keeping the chain on through the full range of gears? Do you have anything installed that helps it stay on?
