Drove today . I have a cold, plus we had a pot-luck lunch at work. Caserole + backpack + rough roads = mess...

I been thinking the same thing until I checked and the earliest sunset is sometime around Dec. 7 or 8. Huh? Well, look it up. It might seem obvious, but sunrise gets later and later until sometime in early Feb. It seems crazy but true. Check the US Naval Observatory for sunrise/sunset tables for your location.

Sob. I too have been counting down to the solstice. Oh well. It was a beautiful ride in this morning. Warm and windless. I actually got out of the house in good time so I decided to start taking my 'winter commute' route. Don't want to have to change my bike, my route and the road conditions all at the same time, so I'm taking it one change at a time. Will swap bikes at the end of next week. I use my 15 y/o Gary Fisher for winter duty. I figure the aluminum frame is less likely to rot in the salt/ice. Winter route takes my along the bike 'road' by the lake. Stunning this morning. Mist rising over the lake through a clear-as-a-bell-sunrise. Still smiling.

Bikes: Many

I had a great commute on Friday, we've been above average in temps all of November so far and it's been really mild and sunny (except the ride in and home it's dark). I topped 4000 miles on the year on Monday and we still have about a month and a half left. I'll have my winter bike ready the end of next week because I know this nice weather is not going to last. I too am waiting for the daylight hours to get longer.

Bikes: See my sig...

Got some snow and ice today which was no bother since I had the winter bike all set up for this... cars were spinning out all over the place and I was laughing my butt off.

Winter ?

Bring it on.

Horrible this week with the rain. Terrible drainage system in my town so the roads become water slides on the way to work.

Pretty decent ride in at 40 F ( 4 C). It was starting to spit, but got in before it came.

Upper 20sF. Sun coming up. There were many more pedestrians out today, as compared to, say, last week. I'm guessing people are in town for the holiday.

3-day work week for me.

Mid 40s and FOGGY. I like the fog but riding in it is a little disconcerting. I know it's hard to see me even with lights and I worry about cars driving around without lights at all.

30's and clear. The rising sun is right in my eyes at this point in the year. I've switched over to my winter ride, an ancient rockhopper converted to single speed with studded tires. It's a total pig compared to my fixie, but there is enough junk accumulating on the shoulders now and too little light in the evenings to see it by for successful avoidance. I hate fixing flats in the cold and dark. No snow or salt on the roads at all yet, though.

Mid 40's, and quite hazy. They promise some sun later. Got off to a late start today, since I got to my usual start point and discovered I had forgotten my "flat" kit. So I had to drive back and get it.

I saw the odometer turn 5000 miles for the year today. Actually turned as I stopped at a light.

I just checked for my area and latest sunrise is in Jan. Never would have guessed it wasn't same as solstice.

42F and gray. Dry(-ish) though, for once. I'm pretty sure I forgot to eat my breakfast. Looking forward to finding a bowl of room-temp oatmeal when I get home...

Me neither. Learn something new every day.

Ride in this AM was nice. Cloudy, cool, and a little windy, but I beat the rain at least. It was nice to be riding again after missing Friday with a broken spoke (fixed over the weekend), expecially since, as of late, my commuting seems to be about the only riding I get in. Weekend riding just hasn't been working out... too much to do.

Foggy Morning was Foggy.

Probably the densest fog I've ridden in. Kinda cool.

High 40's and sunny today at 6:30 am. Great day to be alive and a bike commuter!! Rode door to door to work at USC today instead of taking the subway part of the way, and it was pretty nice. If you avoid the freeways, Los Angeles has some pretty cool neighborhoods you can ride through. Don't think I'll be riding 26 miles home in the dark at 5:30 however...

The holidays are here! Stayed up late, went to a dinner party and had good beer, food, and friends. I've never ridden this late in the year. The noises that were coming from my body as I rode in in protest to what I did to it last night were not fit for man nor beast. I can't wait to see what awaits me after the the Holiday weekend. (:-).

Another rainy day at 40 F ( 4 C). Most of my outer gear dried last night, but some of it was still wet from yesterday. I am getting to the point of smelling like a wet dog, so hopefully, I get a dry ride home. I also have a bad link that likes to act up in the rain. Oil helps, but I really need to replace it.

40F, a bit damp. Saw 3 other cyclists. Reeled in one. If I had left 2 minutes earlier I would have reeled in the other two. Gotta ride fast this week to make up for the calories on Thursday.

Morning fog today; in the low '60's but damp. I took the opportunity to try a new pair of cycling tights from Bellweather I got from Jenson a week or two ago. These have sort of fleece feel on the inside and no chamois so I wore them over my usual padded bike shorts. They do a good job of keeping out the "cold." They seem like they'll work well in lower temps.
The ride was nice, a little less traffic now we're getting close to T-Day. Looks like for rain tomorrow.

Early-ish ride today. Nice and chilly, but bright and sunny. Shoe covers might have been a good idea.

Yesterday I found a punctured inner tube left by a lazy, litterbug weekend cyclist. Fortunately it was right in the middle of the bike lane, easy to stop and pick up, and has a long inflation stem. One small pinhole...

Cold and misty this morning, but good riding weather except for keeping your eyeglasses clear. We had about 1" of rain yesterday, so I drove. Needed a break anyway, as I rode 80+ miles over the weekend. I'm hoping to get in a lot of rides over the long Thanksgiving weekend to raise my monthly total over 600 miles for the first time since April.

I've been think the weather has been awfully rainy in NC this fall, and the local TV weatherman last night said Raleigh, NC, has had quite a few more rainy days this year than Seattle, WA. Although we typically get as much or more rain than Seattle, we usually have a lot fewer rainy days. Typically our rain comes in big spurts during thunderstorms, but this year we have had a lot of days when it mists and drizzles without a lot of accumulation.

Pretty much describes it.

Tomorrow I get off work at 1:00 pm. I'm pretty exited to ride during daylight hours!

Tarwheel: Seattle indeed had a very dry summer. My rainbarrel at the house was emptied out for the first time ever. Just no rain. 104 degrees sums it up.
