Some wet rides these days but, I've been fortunate to have avoided the worst of the downpours due to luck and keeping a close eye on the weather radar. The morning temps have been cool and are a welcome change from the heat we had up until a couple of weeks ago. Made decent time this morning and felt pretty good. Had an opposum cross the trail right in front of me near the airport. I've run over rats before but, an opposum, no, that wouldn't have been pretty. Other than some flooding under the Rt. 1 bridge and rugby fields, the trail wasn't too bad.

TS Lee finally exited NC and the humidity was markedly lower today. Nice commute this morning but legs kind of tired. We're supposed to have a few days of dry weather after a week of high humidity and frequent showers. I might be able to ride my new commuter bike tomorrow if my LBS finishes the assembly. That would be nice.

58F/14C, and gray this morning. No wind. Damp pavement. I will hit 1,000 miles on the Soho tomorrow!

Hit my 100 pound weightloss goal this morning. Decided to completely ignore the weatherman, as he's been dead wrong every single day this month. Overcast but wonderful ride. Best speed ever, averaging 16mph, must have been inspired by the milestone. https://connect.garmin.com/activity/112766652

Day 2 of the return to commuting. Beautiful morning, light and (mostly) well-behaved traffic. I was lacking a good light, and fixed that problem yesterday evening. Being able to see the road makes a big difference!
About 7 miles in to the 15 mile ride I started to feel BAD (impending bonk? don't really know) while waiting at a red light. the last 1/3 of the ride is the most difficult/hilly, and I wasn't looking forward to it. Fortunately I'd tucked a couple gels in my pocket before i left - I don't usually need anything for this distance, but I slammed one - glad I did. By mile 10 I was feeling almost normal, and the rest of the ride was no trouble.

Spent the last two days grounded getting a spoke replaced and the rear wheel retensioned. I jogged 4 miles yesterday morning & I was still feeling it today. The repaired wheel seems to work OK.

Today was amazing. Pouring down rain. Wife offered to ride me to work, but I lied to her and told her that I am staying home. As soon as she cleared the driveway, I took out my super beater bike, a rain jacket, and had big fun on the commute to work. However, when I got to work, everybody, and everybody said I was CRAZY!! Kind of got me embarrassed too. I know most of the flak I was getting was because they care about me. However, I assured them, that I had FUN!! Seemed like I couldn't get that point across, not only to them, but to my wife too. She joined my co-workers in calling me an "old fool", and quickly demanded that she would pick me up from work. Again, I refused.
People some how think 70 year old people supposed to live passively! Spare me! I told them I got a rush out the ride this morning, a big rush!
It was only about 6 miles to the subway, then after the subway, and nice mile long hill to climb to get to work. I had on a rain jacket with hood. Light on my helmet and rear of the bike. More importantly, I am riding my super-beater bike, a 1986 Raleigh Grand Prix 531. It is a rust bucket I picked up for $70, but it got a sweet ride, and I don't mind getting it dirty, wet and leaving it chained up. Oh, I bring all my bikes inside at work. I am a veteran of a fall in the rain. So, I am a little more aware of the pitfuls of riding in the wet.
Again, sweet ride, and the Raleigh sure gives up the goods too.

Today took forever. 80 minutes instead of the usual 40-45.....
Actually, if you count the time I spent walking to/waiting for the train before service was suspended, the time walking home, and the time switching to bike gear/bags, it took 2+ hours....
It was crappy and wet, and the river was a full foot higher than it was yesterday morning, so I planned to take the train. As I'm sitting there waiting for the train, I'm thinking to myself 'I should've just ridden, I hate waiting for the trains when they're late in the rain.'
It took me three attempts to get to the trail, since options 1 and 2 were flooded, so I got some good exercise riding up/down/up/down/up/down a fairly good sized hill (along the Schuylkill, for Philly folks). After that it was fairly smooth sailing since the road was closed, so I had a 4-lane bike trail which is always fun. A few more detours around flooded trail in the city, but all in all I can't really complain, although I may have to get a little creative going home since it's still raining and the river is still rising...

The weather has been incredible here recently. Repeat of yesterday morning: 10C/50F, sunny, calm. Afternoon highs around 30C/86F. Just awesome.
My road bike has been out of commission for a few weeks due to a freewheel that wasn't very free, which led to a busted front derailleur (sounds strange, but it's true). I finally synced up with Sixty Fiver at his shop, and he was able to get my freewheel spinning nicely again, and replaced the FD. He even repacked the bearings in the rear hub. It's all working better than ever...almost...the rear brakes are squealing something fierce, but I noticed Sixty also adjusted the alignment of the rear wheel a bit, so maybe the pads just need to adjust (wear) to the new wheel position.
I think riding my beater bike through the parks the last few weeks has made me lazy. Being back on the streets on the road bike this morning left me wheezing a bit, trying to do intervals between traffic lights. Here's hoping for several more weeks of decent weather so I can keep riding the road bike!
Y'know, this summer, I've had so much grief over chains and gears and derailleurs, I'm starting to think a belt drive/IGH system might be in my future.

The bike part of my commute was great: 65 deg, cloudy, and somewhat clammy (Which makes me feel cooler on the ride).
The bus part sucked. 3 buses with no racks. Was 45 minutes late. I should have just rode the rest of the way into work

I get on at my bus' first stop, so I don't have that problem. Nice ride for me, but it was dark the whole way. I hope that my dynohub light on my new bike will be as bright (or better?) than my Cyclolite Rover II LED.
I ride into Salem on a commuter bus, so it would be faster for me if I missed the bus, to ride back home and drive or ride my motorcycle to work.

Awesome ride today. 18 miles of steady then pouring rain,60 F. Love the J&G helmet cover and showers pass club jacket. Emptied out my hightops when I got to work.

Good to hear the ride in was enjoyable, that Bianchi is a bike that inspires one to push themselves just a little harder and is such a beautiful machine.
Just about ready to head off on my commute... it is always tough to decide that weapon to choose but with the heat I might opt to take things just a little more leisurely.

A very drenching ride in, and goine home yesterday was the same. Nothing is really getting a chance to dry. My bike cover takes a couple
hours to get dry with a fan blowing on it. I also have to alternate shoes, neither pair dries in a day. I expect another downpour on the way home. The good thing is that it is still warm.

I woke up with a gnarly head cold that almost prevented me from riding in. However, when I looked outside I was greeted by a two-foot-high pile of dirt that was blocking my driveway. My street is being repaved this week. Instead of plowing through the dirt with my tiny car, I decided to grab the electra for a slow but steady upright ride to work. I did not want snot dripping out of my nose the whole way on my road bike.
Here is the good part!
I am thrilled that I decided to ride in today because the sky was littered with hot air baloons that were practicing for the annual race this weekend. Good thing that I rode the cruiser. I could look up at the beautiful balloons almost the entire way to work. Today's ride was a good ride.

On yesterday's ride home an SUV driver threw a u-turn / right-hook combo at me. I had to brake hard, that's the closest call I've had all year.
I put in 45km on a roundabout way to school today. Out on the highway I was passed by the LBS owner who sold me my road bike. He easily pulled away from me while probably turning a cadence 30 rpm lower than mine. Yet another person 30 years older than me, in considerably better shape

I am loving, loving
, this weather. In the 80s on the way home. Started out today at 65 (downtown...at home it was more like 55)! Beautiful stuff. The last several weeks have made up for the late summer arrival, except for the newly dark mornings and nights - but still, it's great!
Now just to keep this up another week or two before the weather breaks would be completely awesome.

Holy #$(@*. Awesome! This afternoon I stopped to let a woman and young girl use a crosswalk. They seemed perplexed that a bicycle was actually stopping.
But they smiled and the mother said thanks.I rode a little out of the way to ensure I hit 1,000 miles on the Soho tomorrow morning.

Next time buzz around the big black limo a couple times on your bike. Those SS guys really do have a nice sense of humor.
I rode home in a drizzle, not rain, not not raining, just drizzle.
