pizza man delivers . . .

Come on guys all he said was "sidewalk". he's wrong, but just tell him. Go to the Papa John's and find him give him the rules book. But buy a pizza and give him a tip. I believe that giving him a normal tip even when trying to educate him will help. If it or some other event happens with the same driver then tell the managerand corpertae if you need to, but at least you tried the most gentile approach first. You might want him to know that "Papa" is a cyclest.

I can only imagine the phone call to the guys manager:
- "So, what did he do again?"
- "He said sidewalk"
- Um, ok. So what's the problem? Did he assault or threaten you?"
- He said "sidewalk."
- I'm sorry, sir. I don't see the problem."
- "But he said sidewalk!!!"
Click
I was riding to work last month when a fireman in a parked fire truck yelled at me to use the bike lane. Well first I don't have to use the lane, and second the bike lane is clearly marked as one way the other way.
I suppose I could have contacted the fire chief. My middle finger worked just fine though. They're heroes after all.

A car pulls up close to me on my left, window rolled down, and a young male voice says "Sidewalk", then zooms away. I notice it has a Papa Johns pizza sign on top and I get the first 3 digits of the license plate. What would you do, if anything?

I would just yell back that the sidewalk is not working right.

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. I totally forgot about the tie-in with the founder. My knee-jerk response to "Sidewalk!" is "Garage!", a response that I owe to the local BikeFed prez. Driver was too far gone to hear me, though.
I did call up the local Papa Johns and the manager said he would look up his drivers license plate numbers and see if any matched and then talk to them, then get back to me. He never did. I never followed up further. In the back of my mind was the thought that if I pushed it, I might end up with nasty ingredients in my pizza, since unfortunately we order Papa Johns from that location about every week. Last night I checked for the license plate number of the delivery guy, didn't match. If I ever see that delivery car, maybe I'll include some bike literature along with the tip. Thanks again. Bill H.

dominos has the best thin crust, IMO. But that still doesnt keep me from my boycotts of the san jose, cali (santa clara st) and the 4th ave st pete ones. Both of those locales have angered me pretty badly.
so right now its pizza hut, since they will deliver to folks without an in-area cell number.

I bet Papa John's would love all the public discourse on their business...E-mail the whole thread.
Oh, by the way, why do you all have pizza delivered? Make your own! It's a million times better, and it's very easy. Let me know if you need any baking tips or advice.

My reply to "sidewalk" or "get on the sidewalk" is "I'm not walking", some times with a freindly wave, sometimes with another salute.

That said, we have to keep this in perspective. This was not the Crime of the Century. What's appropriate is a talk with the manager and, if that does not produce satisfactory results, a letter to the manager and to corporate. This is not a police matter.

I just had a speeding problem with one of the Papa Johns delivery drivers in our neighborhood. The managers at Papa Johns were very helpful and attentive. I suggest you call them and at least let the managers know of the problem. If they show no concern a quick mention of bad publicity to all your friends usually awakens any business manager or owner. Wouldn't you want to know how people thought of your business or how your employees reprented it?

When you ride on the sidewalk you even LESS visible to traffic and are MORE likely to get hit in an intersection. Sidewalks safer my eye.
